Savana/ Express Van Builds

Curious for those with AWD - what kind of roads are you capable of getting on? I'm lurking around for a van and the Express is looking good, but I end up in Mexico and other spots that I'd be worried about without 4L.

There is also the option to swap out the single speed transfer case for a high/low unit. There is a thread here where it was done without too much hassle.

Hey everyone, I am new to the Adventure van scene and am currently building up a 2002 Chevy Express 2500 hightop conversion to use for touring, camping and pulling my toyhauler. Problem I'm having is finding aftermarket bumpers, brushguards, tire carriers and leveling kit for front. Anyone have thoughts on where to look?

Check out these threads for good info on lifts and parts crossover.

Because you have an older GM van of the 96-02 variety, you have access to more lift options and crossover with using truck parts for a lift. I would probably go with 4" spindle lift to be able to clear a 285 tire. 2" coil spacer will work on 265 sized tires, but anything bigger would require some trimming.

As far as bumpers go, you will have to fab something yourself. There is nothing readily available. I found a guy who mounted Iron Cross bumpers on, but he never responded to my emails as far as what he used and did. Here are some pics.

check out move bumpers they just began offering a kit for the older model vans. I and others requested and they delivered. Cost me $550 and I had it welded locally. Really quality bumper and super always to fab. I helped the welder and we did it in 2 hours. I then primed it and painted it flat black. weighs about 80 lbs complete. For leveling springs try SDtrucksprings.com they have them for 96-2002 they call them Heavy duty leveling springs. Sorry these are the only pics I have of the bumper. And I have not installed my springs yet. Mine is a 2002 3500 front chassis with a bus body.
