I guess he bought a front clip from a wrecked Toyota Surf and bolted it into his Tacoma. He claims it gets 20-28 mpg with bio diesel and has roughly 113hp and 232ft/lbs torque.

Ahh yes the venerable 1kzte... I've been looking for a viable way to do one of these swaps for quite some ime, na dhte hard par is getting one with a 5 speed... Ohterwise it looks like you have to pony up for an R151 and even then I belive there are compatibility issues. Lovly little TD motor though.

I thought the 1KZ used the W56? But either way, you'd need a half cut to get the right bellhousing. The W56, G52, R150F (3VZ-FE) and R151F (22R-TE) are all somewhat interchangeable.

I looked into this instead of rebuilding my 22R-E, but it's not as painless as it seems. First you have to swap a RHD wiring harness to a LHD truck, which takes some work. Second, there aren't spare parts in the Toyota NA parts systems for the 1KZ engines. So you are getting parts shipped from overseas. Another not so big deal except when you're broken down someplace or need to find a shop to do work on it. For me the 2L-TE made more sense, there are some part of it in the system and it bolts right into a truck made for a 22R, but those are not any easier to get at the moment.
