Scheel-Mann seats in 3rd Gen Tacoma - airbag issues- has anyone done it?

Greetings fellow Tacoma geeks!

I'm considering putting some Scheel-Mann seats in my Taco. I had a chance to talk to a rep at OE West this weekend and he gave me some issues to think about:
1) If I install these seats, I will lose the side-impact airbags in the factory seats. I can probably live with that but it is something to consider.
2) I will also lose the pressure sensor in the passenger side seat - the one that decides whether or not to activate the passenger side airbag. This issue is the bigger concern for me since how the Taco would behave without this sensor is unclear. Would the airbag always be on or would it always be off?

So, my question is, has anyone out there actually done a Scheel-Mann seat install in a 3rd Gen Tacoma (or any other aftermarket seat that does not include a pressure sensor)? Does anyone have any info on the airbag behavior when the pressure sensor is disconnected?

I am not here to debate the relative merits of different seats so I will ignore any posts on that topic, or any other peripheral topic.

Thanks!

I've been looking into doing something similar. Found a good thread on taco world about it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/aftermarket-seats-in-3rd-gen-some-info.611276/

Sounds like you can either transplant the pressure sensor or use a resistor to cancel it out. However, the setup seems to change through different years and there is also a seat position sensor to contend with. Meso has a good breakdown on page two.
Thanks! If I couldn't find any info here I was going to head over to TW anyway!

It might be really late to the game but here are the answers to all your seat mounting questions:

• True that if you remove a factory seat you lose that airbag. When removing a seat mounted airbag you must let the SRS system know that there isn't an error and to function correctly. That involves installing an airbag proxy: https://www.tolerance-stack.com/product-page/airbag-proxy-type2

• 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacomas did not get "seat occupancy pressure pads" the way the 4th Gen 4Runner's passenger seat did. Tacomas got load-cell arrays which calculates the weight of the passenger and adjusts the seat belt tension and airbag expansion during an accident. You can read about it more here:
https://www.tolerance-stack.com/pos...unction-and-why-modifying-isn-t-the-best-idea
We've solved that by actually designing our mounts to retain those four sensors. Then we detail the methods to either do a zero-point calibration using tech-stream: https://www.tolerance-stack.com/tech-stream-calibration or by using our mechanical method if you don't have access to techstream: https://www.tolerance-stack.com/pos...uiser-passenger-load-cell-system-with-springs
