Scout pop-up

Curious, why is that price reasonable to you? I saw the price and thought it was absurd.

Perhaps I missed something.

Sadly COVID/Post COVID pricing is insane for about everything. That said, it doesn't seem like any industry is going back to pre-pandemic prices so it is what it is. I am looking at the overall unit and it seems very similar to the Super Tramp. Those are insanely priced so if Scout can come out with a very similar unit at a similar price to FWC and more than half of a ST, then it will be an acceptable price and they will sell a ton of them.

It looks like you can get one fairly stripped down, which would allow the DIYer to build to their specs, with the equipment they want. I can build my own metal framed/skinned camper but I cannot do composites. This would be a great starting point. Price and weight would be the deciding factors. Once 30K+ price is crossed, my interest starts to lessen.

While I do like this concept very much, I do wish that Scout could figure out a way to hold more than about 4.9 gallons of water. Seems like I recall Juniper Overland devising a way to add about 7 gallons (?) under the sink. I wonder if the inset stove will change that.

I am finalizing my design but I am coming out with a frp composite hard sided poptop flatbed diy kit in the fall if that is any interest to you. Around 10k ikea type kit 8 x 5 x 4 or 5 pops up to 7 or 8

Here ya go I got my patent on the topper a few yrs ago. Been busy with my auto upholstery biz. Working with founder of LineX to coat all the panels and seal all attachments. Nice thing is the weight should be around 300lbs
Most truckbeds are around 250lbs
Make a light weight flatbed and you are adding very little weight

… I hope nobody gets into an accident while driving with too much weight. If I'm a claim adjuster first thing I'm doing is finding-out what the GVWR is of that truck!

I’d suspect that is exactly what an accident lawyer would do too. So many campers push the weight limits that this probably is common knowledge for the billboard advertising personal injury attorneys. 😬

I'll bite and play devil's advocate.

I see lot's of prices dropping everywhere with the exception of restaurant food.

Groceries are a lot cheaper in many instances pre-covid. Fuel, new vehicles, RV's and on and on!

Scout like anyone else is already facing this reality would be my guess. The RV/Overlanding craze is fading with lot's of rigs, trailer, trucks, RV's, campers and rooftops for sale EVERYWHERE everyday on this site Facebook, CL and others.

All one has to do is look at changes on this forum over the last 6-9 months from talking about equipment and travel to a FOR SALE SITE for all the folks trying to dump the mistake.

Buyer's for highline items like a Scout are far fewer than before. It may take them some time HOWEVER they will come to their senses when the Dollars get far and few between and closing down may become reality!

Face facts.

With the cost of equipment and all the other crap we think we need light truck travel and a Hotel is significantly cheaper!

I'm not sure where you live, but groceries here are vastly more expense than they were pre-covid. New vehicles??? Again, which planet are you on? A used, four-year old 1/2 ton truck with 80k miles is more expensive than a brand new one was in 2020. A new 1/2 ton is $70-80k now. Where are you finding all of this cheap stuff?

Was super excited to see them tease this, I hoped they were going to crush the competition from a price point and "read the economic room" by landing in the low 20k range for a basic setup. Seems like it would be perfect on the new ranger I've been considering with its impressive payload to spare.

Adding a few minor basics and you're at $34k before tax. They priced themselves right into FWC being the better deal. No matter how much I like their concept, design, and materials I can't convince myself of the value with how many other options are available.

Pricing is rightsizing in other industries - new MY models are coming in cheaper msrp than prior. That has not seemed to hit this segment quite yet. I have never understood how some of these slide in pop ups have demanded the prices they have in the past decade, it always feels like it should be half of the cost based on what you really get.
