Scratch & Dent ARB Bullbars- Round II

The cold has overtaken us again. Instead of spending an hour jockeying around the freezing warehouse with forklifts, we would rather see these bars on someone's rig and sit in our warmth.

Same deal as last time. These bars and scratched and they are dented. They are not going to look new. BUT they will be cheap.

We have TWO, count them TWO, Bullbars (part number 3423030) for the 2005-2009 Toyota Tacoma. They will come with complete new fit kits.

One has an obvious bent top plate and scratches. The other is still wrapped and is known to be scratched, but may be dinged too.

Price is $550 for what we will call the "bent" bar and $600 for the "wrapped" bar.

I agree. I just ordered an ARB bullbar for my dad's Lexus. For a buy it off the shelf part they are awesome. I'm installing an ARB air locker in my 100 this week. How about a scratch and ripped box sale on some air lockers? My FJ68 project truck needs some love

Does ARB have any recommendations for when the bars powder coating starts to come off?

I am ready to take one off of my LWB and get it baked and then either galvanized or coated with bedliner.

If you have any better recommendations, I'm all ears.

Hi Mike,
either solution is OK really. The bars have a phosphate coating below the powder as the base which is why they rarely rust badly even when the top coat is damaged. Anyway, if you opt to go line x or the like I would think you could just scuff the finish heavily and you should get good retention unless the powdercoat is actually flaking off in which case sand blasting would be a good idea. As for galvanizing, i'm not as familiar with that process, but suspect that the procedure will chemically strip the steel anyway making the powdercoat finish pretty much history during the process.

I felt bad pointing out the powdercoat issue on my bumper as I felt it might have come of as a little whiney. To the contrary...

This is a bumper that has been on my RRC for 10-ish years or so, the last 4 have seen it criss-crossing a very hostile salt-water environment on a regular basis. The powder coating is indeed flaking off and the rust is creeping underneath causing more blistering. I don't know if this is an older design, but it is suffering visibly.

I think I'll get it galvanized next summer when I get some time. I have some sliders that are just painted and the pair would look good galvy'd up. I think I'll have to have the powdercoating burned off, as we haven't had very good luck sandblasting powdercoat.

I'm going to let the rest of the truck rust away around the preserved bits that are worth something. I am planning on taking all of the 'goodies' and swapping them onto another RRC when this one bites the dust. The goodies are what's worth keeping, and the ARB gear on my truck is a major part of the goodies.

Anyway, don't anyone let my little question here sway you from not getting an ARB. IMO it's the best bumper around (I have seen deer bounce off of one at 65mph with NO damage). They are a great company and customer service has always been a huge priority. Heck, what other company would offer the sweet deal in the first place?

[hijack]I've had good results from the more aggressive paint strippers in removing powder coating. Burning seems like it would be detrimental to the strength of the bumper. I guess it depends on if you're thinking a propane torch or a bonfire.[/hijack]

Any JK Wrangler bumpers fall off the shelf recently? My back bumper is an atrocity after the unfortunate ice incident and my front bumper has an embarrassing dent from a campsite patron with poor backing skills....
I mean, I don't mind that the Jeep isn't a virgin; I just want a better story to go with the carnage.
