We recently visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium and of everything they offer for a photographer to drool over, the Sea Nettle Jelly Fish are by far the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life

It was dream like to sit and watch them swim around

The colors are Amazing!! It's always been enthralling to me that one of the most unique creatures in the sea, that one would want to touch, can't be touched. Great photos.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has gotten better and better over the years. I remember when the old Cannery Row was reopened. My family was stationed at Fort Ord from 1983-1986. You may be able to get a "behind the scenes" tour to get some other interesting photos. I didn't think there was a way to be more impressed with the aquarium until I did the "behind the scenes" tour.

Those are mazing pics, and I know how hard it can be to photograph in an aquarium. Wait, is that even through the glass, or are you in the water with them?

For the Sea Nettle shots, I found that if you have a big hood on your lens, and you place the hood right up against the glass, it helps to remove any of the crazy distortion the thick lexan causes

They still offer a behind the scenes tour, but we visited on a Saturday (Wrong thing to do) and the place was packed. All the behind the scenes tours were filled already. I'm told its best to go mid-week, Tuesday or Wednesday being the slowest days, but we were just passing thru, so we had to stop when we did.

Nice shots! I have almost the same pictures from my visit there about a year ago. Their whole jelly fish display is amazing. That place gets real busy too! Its hard to stand there and get good shots with all the other people around trying to get close. I remember a few times turning around and almost knocking some little guys over.

Great shot of the Leafy Sea Dragon Brad. Those things are just so wild to sit and watch. Their fins move so fast, you cant even see them move and they just glide through the water

my sister works there...she says its as cool as an organization as it seems to be on the surface(pun intended).

They've been very good to her, and that's saying a lot since job openings are very competitive. (Competition tends to bring out the worst in people in a workplace, but non-quality, non-relaxed and groovy attitudes don't last long there, I guess.)

Pat these were great pictures to wake up to this morning. I watched the movie SEVEN POUNDS last night and I discovered a fascination with Jelly fish so it was nice to see your photos to drool over.

So hood against the glass...what else? Where is your light source? The Sea Nettle seem to be just from the tank, but did you use any strobe on the eel or sea dragon? It's been years since I've been to the aquarium, but nothing I took came out anywhere near that. I'll have to try that next time.

I dive at an aquarium and have tryed a few times to take pictures there, but there is no way I can get them to come out that good of quality. What settings/camera did you use? Was the tank outdoors and hence well lit? Was the glass really that incredibly clear??

I think that Pat is magical! All of his pictures look like he was able to stop time and get the photo to turn out however he wants. His screen name should be Pat Bonish the Magnificent!
