Tracy wanted a trip to Sedona for her birthday to visit her good friend Gigi. Sounds good to me. We left Norco at 7:30pm Thursday evening. We spent the night at Dome Rock Road

We left Quarttzsite at 8am Friday morning and we were in Sedona at noon. We offloaded the Black Pearl and headed for Soldiers Pass.

After Soldier Pass we headed over to Greasy Spoon. Not many pictures but it was a fun drive. 5 minutes from being done for the day I had a blowout. I put the spare on the Jeep but was now without a spare for the rest of the trip.

Dinner was at PJ's in Oak Creek Village on Friday night. Excellent food and fun atmosphere.

Saturday morning I was on the phone for an hour taking care of some business back in La Habra. I also made a call to a tire shop in Cottonwood and found a used tire. Jay and I drove over to Cottonwood and picked up the new spare. It snowed off and on all day Saturday.

Saturday afternoon we headed for Broken Arrow only to find a sign stating that it was closed and unsafe for travel. ******? Seems Coconino National Forest closes some of their trails to vehicular activity in wet weather. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/conditions/wet-weather.shtml
Broken Arrow, Schnebly Hill, Boyton Pass, Soldiers Pass, & Red Canyon were all closed. We headed back to Verde Valley School Rd and drove it to where it ends at Oak Creek. Great views of Cathedral Rock from the end of Verde Valley School Rd. The Jeep got just a bit muddy :)

Sunday morning the sun was shining. I got an early start looking for some shots of the local red rock with snow. These 2 are my favorites from Sunday morning.

At 10am we headed for Broken Arrow only to find it still closed. On to Schnebly Hill. Closed as well. We met up with a real ***** of a USFS ranger at the closed trail head to Scnebly Hill. Because I had red mud on my Jeep she felt it was her job to inform me that I deserved a citation for resource damage. Once I informed her that the mud came from Verde Valley School Rd near Gigi's house in Oak Creek which is open and when I asked her if all the hikers with red shoes deserved citations for resource damage she decided she didn't want to talk with me any more. We decided to head for friendly routes. We found the loop of routes 761 and 525C open North of 89A.

At 1pm as we headed back to Gigi's house I took one last chance on the Broken Arrow trail and it was open. No doubt the 15 Pink Jeeps full of passengers we passed on the trail had some influence on the decision.

We left Sedona at 6pm. We spent the night off I-10 at Summit Road. Back in Norco at 10am on Monday. Back at work at 11:30am.

It was a fantastic adventure.

Very nice pictures. I was there about this time last year, but not nearly as much snow as your trip. Beautiful country to say the least. Nice houses too. Thats funny what you said to the USFS "I asked her if all the hikers with red shoes deserved citations for resource damage she decided she didn't want to talk with me any more." Good way to quite an uptight b#&@(. You work outdoors, in a place people would die for, whats to be so mad about? Nice Bday trip, thanks for posting!

Nice trip! I always forget how fortunate we are to be 30 miles from Sedona and some fun trails. Eventhough it is managed by some interesting people. Coconino NF seems to strive to keep all roads accessible by Subaru. That is, until they want to lock everyone out because of fire danger.

There are certain times that travel on muddy surfaces damages the roads and we have plenty of rednecks who just want to go mudin' and tear stuff up. Law enforcement that threatens to write tickets based on assumptions and prejudice gets to me. I'm glad that you stood up to them respectfully.
