Seeking Fuso friendly iPad mount

Who's come up with the silver bullet? I'd like to use an iPad for navigation/mapping duties in the cab of the FG. Has anyone come up with good (or bad for that matter) solutions that they can share with the group?

TIA,

Jim

I ran a piece of aluminum square tube an inch or two above the dash, and bolt stuff to it using ram mounts.

I did a ram ball mount right between the seats, for the ipad. Eventually I'll move up up a bit higher, up on the dash. One thing to remember with the ipad though - they really, really don't like heat. As in "time to shut down, case is too hot" kind of behavior. When I do make a dash mount, something that'll spend a bit of its time in direct sunlight, it'll be with a hood and quite possibly a cooling fan built in.

I dislike using RAM Mounts because it seems whenever you go over bumpy roads the thing mounted vibrates down. I had that issue with my GPS mount on my 800 GS and have that same issue with my laptop in my work vehicle. I am also using my iPad as a navigation tool. I am mounting the hard case to my center sun visor. I haven't found another mounting idea that I really like.

There are actually a couple of different sizes of the ball mount - I'm using the larger of the two. With the ipad weight, I don't think the small, standard size would do so well.

I haven't had an issue on the dash with my iPad but I have with the dash cam. I fabbed a heat shield out of an aluminum can (a field fix) and that solved the problem. Don't underestimate the effect of getting the device out of direct sunlight will have!

Did you go for the extra points of having the beer can label facing out? :D I missed spotting that at OvEx....

Any chance you could share a shot of two of your engineering? Sounds interesting.

Here's a few views

Surely you can fit a few more monitors in there... you're just not trying! ;)

There's plenty of room for more! And when I have the shades up there are no suction cups, etc that are visible on the windshield.

For the record, I'm hanging
1- ipad
2- Garmin
3- Delorme inReach
4- TPMS
5- Dash cam

All of the wiring feeds through the split loom into the center of the dash (next to the dash cam) where I have all the various 12V adapters hard wired in.
