yes, marine blue is one of my fav colors as well.

this was my 109:

I get to hijack myself:ylsmoke:
Mr. Blueboy how did you like the coil conversion? would you do it again or stay with leafs?

The reason I ask is when I replace the frame this will be a tough decision that I will need to make.

Hi Pete,

The broad stroke restoration concept was 100% Series IIa body / interior on a modern day drivetrain.

This included Rover 3.9, permanent 4wd with LT 230, R380 5-speed, and coils.

Leafs were not considered as the Rover (which was called Blueboy) was to be used off-road as well as on highway.

We drove the Rover as it was intended - not a garage or trailer queen.

Not abused yet it saw many off highway as well as highway miles with many smiles on our faces.

It was a very cool Rover and yours has the bones as well.

If doing it over, I'd do exactly the same.

Love this truck. I always wanted to do a v8 swap in my 88, probably would have if I had the garage space to do it in. How do you feel about the automatic? Seems it would take a lot of the fun of an old rover out of it?

We are 80 miles SW of Roanoke, East of Bland 6 miles (24315) then up Big Walker mountain 1.5 miles

Cool, Some fun roads near Big Walker Mt, we used to cruise all over that area when I was at VT.

Regarding the automatic. I have used both and with the exception of having to back down A step incline I'll take an auto
Also my wife's requirement is power steering & auto

We are battling forest road closures these days. I still can gain access on horseback though.

yep, that is Blueboy.

later on in his life we installed a stainless steel exhaust that was custom bent in the ECR shop.

really hated to sell that Rover, yet, life changes sometimes take priority.

in any case, as mentioned before, we used Blueboy for many years so if there any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

@Mr. Barrows, the Rangie is awesome here in Swissland / Europe. Mike and the gang did a fantastic job getting it back into shape. And as it orginated in So.Cal., no rust at all on the steel substructure. Went to the Italian / French Alps last Summer camping for 2 weeks in it and had a blast. Not many left over here.

It appears that now instead of later the frame swap will need to take place and since I want to have disc brakes that now helps make the decision on coil vs leaf.
and since I will have it apart I considering shifting the engine back and reinstalling the 65 front clip
Ok lets hear some thoughts

Series front with V-8 = lots of details to sort as there is so little room for it to fit. But, easier than a straight six ;-)

Let me know if you need some body parts as o have somehow acquired one and maybe two Series.

Thanks dale I will keep that in mind, You wouldn't have a LWB RRC rolling chassi with disc brakes laying around? or maybe a rolling disco chassi

I need to start an opinion pole :ylsmoke: Series front vs Stage 1 / defender front

Not only is this a great project and truck, but the fact that your wife loves rovers and would be excited about this makes it all the better! This Rover and the wife are certainly keepers! Good luck!

Actually I do- D-I with only 90k miles and from NC would make a great donor. Give me a call if interested.

I'm a sucker for the vintage look- so vote Series front.

In talking with Evan we are seriously kicking around the idea of a coil suspension since the frame is on life support. One thought is to sue a RRC or Disco frame
I will try and call mid day

Series front (of course).

Cooling needs to be worked out.

Blueboy used an electric fan on the largest radiator you could stick between the front clip and the engine.

Even in sitting traffic the engine stayed ok albeit at the upper temp range.

Under load off highway never a problem.
