Probably doesn't matter at this point, but when I moved to California in 2004, I registered my former petrol, now diesel 1973 109 without difficulty. Titling it, on the other hand...
All vehicles 1974 and older are exempt from smog rules which is why you didin't have a problem. A 1980 would have to be smogged and therefore would need to conform to the rules for a referee to deem it legal.

Great truck, good luck with the sale!!

Well I probably should not have bothered to update this ad after I received this email below because I am sure that the truck is all but sold. However, just in case, I have uploaded some extra photos to the website showing the seats in various configurations and some that show the condition of the chassis. I know I know why waste my time? I am sure this guy is legit! :victory:

"Dear sir,
I am an international business man, specializes in dealing, purchasing and selling of AUTOS. I also help my foreign client to ship their AUTOS to any place of their desired country or destination, most especially EUROPEAN and AMERICAN COUNTRIES, because i have a reputable shipper who takes care of the shipment,so shipping will not pose any problem.

Presently i have a client who has asked me to help him purchase used advertised auto. As i was browsing through the internet, i saw your advertised auto subjected above and i will like to purchase it for my client, but before payment will be made i need to be sure of whom i will be dealing with if you are going to be honest and sincere throughout the transaction.

So to start with, signify your interest by forwarding to me your last (PRICE) through email, after which we can continue with the transaction and i promise if all conditions and agreement are accepted and reached on time, payment will be made out almost immediately. Hoping to hear from you as soon as possible.

Respectfully,
WAYNE-WATSON."

I hear he has a Nigerian banker friend who is going to make me rich as well!

Well old Wayne Watson fell through, as have a few other guys that have been considering this fine expedition vehicle so I am going to give this listing a Friday bump.

importing into the US

Is there anyone here that knows what hurdles would have to be overcome to import into the US?

I live in Minnesota and my research indicates that, at minimum, the car would have to comply with current bumper regulations. I don't see how that is possible given this vehicle did not have different bumpers in 1980.

If anyone can direct me to a better source of info than what I have found, it would be most appreciated,

Cheers

Kevin

Once a vehicle is over 25 years old it can be freely imported into the United States. It is advised (at least from what I have read) to get a registered importer to do this for you since they are used to the paperwork and can grease the wheels on the whole process.

Now getting it smog certified (if you have to) would vary state-to-state, but there shouldn't be a problem importing this.

And yeah, I have been researching this ever since seeing this for sale. That is an incredibly beautiful Rover.
