Shocks for 1997 E350 Ambulance package

Billstiens and Fox have rave reviews for off road, but and input for a road driven Ambo?

The supplier I normally deal with can't get Billstiens here in Canada. My current shocks are rusty, and sometimes allow as much as three bounces after going over a bump, so I'm sure they're toast. I've considered mail order, but warranty and fitment issues can be a potential problem. Any other favorites?

I just put rancho rs5000 shocks on my ford falcon and love them! They were on sale for $45 each. They come as standard equipment on my ford f350 king ranch dually with the FX4 offroad package. They work well on their also!

I've got RS5000s on my Fj40, never been super impressed, they allow a lot of body roll and could use extra rebound dampening for that application... 5000s don't have a good rep for Landcruisers.

Don't know how they'd do on a 9000lb Ambo

I have a 93 e350 ambo and put bilstein hd's on it. At 9k pounds, I wouldn't feel comfortable putting anything else on there. You can get them. Just because one guy can't get them doesn't mean you can't. I suggest the HD's for the ambulance since they are meant for RV's and the ambo's weight about the same.

Check out Agile's custom valved Fox's. They get great reviews on everything they go on.

I plan on working with them for VanDOOM's shocks even though they are for the later models.

I can get them... Just not sure they're worth $550 to me and hassles to get them replaced under warranty if need be.

I'm not unhappy with the way it handles now, and I'm sure the current shocks are near dead.

I'm in the exact same boat. Also not interested in blowing $500 on shocks which I will be replacing with something high end later.

Looks likeAgile's Fox Shocks would be about $130x4 = $540 + ? For shipping... OEM shocks would be $170x2 + $140x2 = way too much.

Monroe $320
Napa "Monroe" $410

Just wish there was a 1/2 decent option for someone who's not going Baja racing... But might want to travel down a logging road at more than 5 mph.

I guess I don't need to worry about warranty since RV shocks only have 1 year warranty... Or about 5000 miles.

What will you be replacing the Fox shocks with? King's or ? I figured that the custom valved Fox shocks would be perfect for our rigs. I am not jumping or desert racing the van myself. They are fully rebuildable. They are expensive at 500 but it seems worth it.

I may end up just biting the bullet and buying Fox shocks when it comes time, just having a hard time with the idea of paying $700 for a set of shocks. I'm just not finding reasonably priced alternatives. For $700, I'd like to have something which makes a big difference. Maybe my existing shocks aren't as bad as I think, I'll have to pull them and check.

This same question resurfaces. I'd swapped in some decent front shocks, but not one of them has broke,,, :(
