shopping for off road camper

I've just started the process of shopping for an off road camper. My family has grown and we generally avoid the crowded campgrounds. I need a camper that can handle the unimproved public roads of the southwest. Shopping for these things is very overwhelming with so many different options. It we need to be for 4 people and also handle poor weather during the fall or winter. The bells and whistles are not needed (flat screen tv, fancy lights, upgraded wood work...) and I'd like to keep the price range below $15K. I'm more interested in storage space, electrical outlets and power source, and refrigerator if possible. How do the tent models hold up in poor weather of rain, snow, and wind? I like the tear drop styles with the addition of a tent for the kids. The most difficult thing is finding one to look at because they are not sold at dealerships.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Go for a square drop, hiker is a good choice. I have an Intec Flyer, they have since changed the name, put a tent on top and a foxwing awaning and your good to go, if I had a rooftop tent I’d be at 15k.i bought mine last year in Mesa, AZ. One windy night in Baja convinced tent trailers were for someone else. Mike

I have a VRV Eco Flyer with Rhino Batwing, has a tent that attaches to the back or use a rooftop tent for additional sleeping .
