Shopping Tacoma Truck For A Buddy... Help Me Out.

My friend is looking to get into a new-to-him Tacoma. He would like something that is newer (2000+), but prefers the smaller body style. However, he is willing to consider the larger truck. He is pretty set on the 4-door, but again would consider an extra-cab. He is new to wheeling and a medical student so he would love something that is already mostly to completely built already. Not looking to do intense rock crawling, but still wants to be able to get out and explore. Hoping to find something below $15k, and below $10k would be awesome. Please help us find him a good rig.

Have him look for a TRD model that has not been modified as the ability of the person performing the mods could be in question. Look for a placard (sticker) under the hood for a timing belt change on any thing with over 100,000. A sudent doesnt have a lot of money to fix poorly performed mods or the time. If he is mechanicly inclined he could do small mods when time and money are available.

I have a 04 TRD 4 door, 4 wheel drive with 75k that is basically stock that I am putting up for sale since I just bought a 09. asking 16k for it if your buddy is interested. I am in Central California.

Mine will probably be going up for sale here soon. 2000 Xtra cab, modified, but all major mechanical mods were performed by a well known 4x4 shop in AZ. She has some body damage and some things not quite right, but most will be fixed before I sell her, and no major problems (runs great, drive line is great, etc.) Here are some pictures, if he goes on my profile there are a few other threads with more pics from other trips.

Check out the local Toyota messageboards...TTORA, YotaTech, TRDoffroad, ToyotaNation, CustomTacos...there are plenty of good unmodified and modified trucks for sell.

Good luck.

Thanks guys for the heads-up on your trucks and the forums. We're going surfing today, and I will show him what ya'll have posted up so far and see what he thinks. BTW, those were some pretty amazing water crossing pictures, and I will never leave another plastic can holder uncut again. We don't want to cause the extinction of the species "yorkshire extremelycutis." (Sorry, I'm a biologist so I can't help being a nerd)
