my 2002 Tacoma had 365K and I felt it was ready to continue exploring until one day, it struggled to start, then threw a misfire code. Ended up being a burnt valve. I didnt rebuild it since it was just a prerunner used for my daily commute.
365K is a good, long life!

It’s cool going back over 15 years in this thread and seeing how simple the builds were, people were just getting down on trails with minimal gear. Seeing camping evolve has been interesting, so many creature comforts and crazy builds these days. The biggest creature comforts I’ve had was a 2 burner stove, Tepui, Mr Buddy and a Yeti 65 if you considered that a “luxury item”. Other than that I’ve pretty much used backpacking gear for all my wheeling trips over the years. I wonder when “minimalist” overlanding will take off, at some point people will desire to be counter culture to the crazy builds.

Nice Tundra, did you happen to get it from the Boise area? My old work sold one similar to that a few years ago, I almost considered trading my Taco for it.

Funny I was just thinking the opposite. I was looking through the way back posts and marveling (at least for the 4runner) how the only real changes are better roof top tents and some creative sliders out the back to better use of the space.

More notable to me was the game of getting them outdoors has changed from much more crawling and heavier off-road playing to more extended camping.

I am sure if I looked hard enough I could better pin point the changes from soft roof toppers, to pop ups with hard covers, to the must have snorkel to the must have ladder.

Fun thread.
