Hi all, first off all please excuse any grammer or spelling errors.. English is not my first language. (From Sweden)
Been reading alot of threads on here about Chevy Express vans since i own two myselfe. Alot of great info and inspiration. Thanks to everyone that share theire awesome work!
Anyhow to the topic, Im in the process off building a daily driver/mountainbike hauler and wanted a lift kit. Read om here that silverado spindles worked on the older ones and after som research I figured I would give it a try on my 2004 1500 2wd. Maybe somebody wants to know?
Some pictures are included (i hope)
I did some maintence when i was at it.
New upper and lower control arms and new brakes.
I ordered 3 inch lift spindles for a 99-07 2wd silverado truck. Upper and lower ball joints work with the Express, hub and brakes aswell.. maybe im going to need a longer brake hose.
The outer tie rod is where the problems starts, i knew when i ordered the spindles that Silverado tie rods mount from the top and Express from the bottom. I figured i could drill them out and use an insert to mount the tie rod end in the right spot.
But the distance between the lower balljoint and steering mounting area is greater on the silverado spindle. Giving me allmost the correct angle if i mount the tie rod from the top. I may experince some "bump steer"
The next problem is that Silverado and Express tie rod ends are tapered diffrently. The Express one is larger so i switched to Silverado ones witch are a little shorter.
I will probably have an issue with the inner tie rod beeing able to hit the stabilizer bar in extreme cases but a longer link will solve that.
So this is where im att right now.. need to get it aligned and see if the shorter tie rod end will work and if the "bump steer" will be manageble.
