Skamper 100S questions

Anyone have a link to fridge repairs? I have taken all the clearence lights off, does anyone know if they are required? Does it depend on the overall height?

Lefty,
I'm a bit late, but better than never I guess.... From my research on my old Dometic Fridge the most you can do to service them is clean out the baffle, all the propane lines, exhaust tube, and pilot hole. Heres a thread I started. From what I read, these bad boys have to be very clean to operate on propane. The temp needs to be just right.

Does your fridge work? Check it on 12V, and 120 first. If it works on either of those you should be good by just cleaning everything. Also, if it is not working with 12V or 120, check if the heater element is getting hot. If not, replace that.

Good Luck! Rocking project! :smiley_drive:

Oh you're killing me with the pictures soon post!!! I have been contemplating having Bear Creek make new canvas sides for my Hallmark. My insulated sides have seen better days (a lot of years ago I think...) and I'm going to get rid of the leaky and troublesome top half of my door, which means I have to put something in place of the upper door panel... My parents have put Bear Creek canvas on two differen Coleman pop-up campers now, and loved it! They do nice work!

Now get out there and get some pics!! :)

From all the internet searching I did, I didn't find a thing except that they went out of business or if I remember were bought/absorbed by 6pack campers. That is why I decided to start my own thread. Good luck with the new camper!

Picture of the new floor, by far the easiest way to make a huge improvement.

This is how I covered the hole from the removed cook top.

He did a great job on the top. He changed the way that the curatins work. They use to be sewed at the top & just hung down to cover the window. Now they are zipered in just like the windows. I'm not sure about this, the old way you could unzip the window & let the curtain hang down & still get a breeze going. Now the curtain is either zipped shut or not. He did alot more work, they look nicer sewed in, but no breeze & shutting out the light w/ the window open.

I made these bump stop / spacers from a tractor trailer bump stop.

I have replaced all of the trim insert w/ new as you can see & started to reseal w/ silcone caulking on both sides of the trim. By far my most dispointing part, that silcone is very hard to work with & get it to lay nicely.

Does anyone have a picture of the original trailer plug. I have a debacle of cut and spliced wiring coming out of the camper to a new plug. Everything inside looks in good shape. But only one tail light works.

Had the camper on a couple of weekend trips & have learned some things that need improved on. For the most part it did great & far exceeds a tent. I want to get the fridge fixed on replaced. I think that it's missing some parts possibly. I need to get some pictures of it.

I want to add an outdoor shower unit & hot water heater. Anyone have a tread that has already done this? I'm thinking of adding a outdoor unit to the left rear section that hangs over. Which I know would add all kinds of problems. Hot water heater, plumbing, larger water storage & what ever else I'm not thinking of. But I believe that to be alot simplier than an indoor unit. Would like to hear some thoughts on this.

Has anyone added a bunk for additional sleeping? Seems like there could be some room for one over the dinette/slepping area or over the sink/stove area. Just haven't been able to think that one all the way out. Any treads out there? I have two kids & the lower sleeping area gets crowded.

Glad to hear you are out using the Skamper! Man I miss that under the bed storage! SO where are the pictures Lefty!!!?? You know if you don't have pictures it never happened right. haha

I bought one of these. It works GREAT! I know a lot of other people are using these as well. It is cheaper and easier than adding a hot water system to the camper.

Look in the General Expedition Discussion and Modifications part of the forum. There are some cool theads where people get VERY creative.

There is a thread on here where a guy replaced the side window with a fold out bed/tent thing. I think it was a Callen hard sided camper. It was pretty slick. Picture a small version of the hybrid travel trailers where beds fold out of either end. It wouldn't be too hard. The canvas/waterproofing part is the only thing that would concern me.

GOOD LUCK!

I'm looking at a 1982 Skamper 100s this weekend. Do you know the interior height of the camper with the top up? I'm 6'5" and was wondering how much I'm going to have to hunch over inside one of these. If you don't know, no worries. I'll see for myself on Saturday. Beautiful work on the rebuild by the way.

If anyone else ever wonders, the interior height is about 6'6". I had plenty of room to stand upright inside. I'll start my own thread and add pictures when I go back to pick it up this weekend.

I'm little to late to repsond, but thank you & I'm looking forward to seeing another build tread on the same camper.

Great link for the canvas! Mine's getting tired in the corners. For yrs I just left the canvas crumpled up in the corners. Now I've developed pinholes whch I'm using silicone on. I remember looking at the 10' Scampers here locally. The diamond plate looks super!
