Skid plates

I just spoke with the dealership to order some skid plates and they told me I need just 2 plates. One for the engine and one for the transmission and transfer case. Is this all I need or are there three plates? :smiley_drive:

You might want to look into aftermarket ones. I bet the dealership is really expensive.

Don't you also need a fuel tank skid?
 
They quoted me a price of 2 for a 100 dollars. Thinking it would be cheaper to make my own.:smiley_drive:
 
That is a good price. I'd get the dealer ones. Can you bend and cut metal and mold in ribbing or dimple dies for rigidity?

Can you do that? I'd like to make my own. But that sounds too easy.
 
It does sound easy, Going to price out some steel in the morning and see if its worth it. I found a skid plate by skid row that is the same design as mine for 250 plus shipping.
 
I would definitely recommend upgrading the tranny skid. The Mopar one won't last. I don't think I have any real dents on my fuel tank skid. My mopar engine skid and xfer case skid have taken a beating but have held up.

Bolt it to what? You have to bend the metal up to get to the bolt points, assuming they exist, and get the holes in exactly the right locations.
 
I would be drilling holes into the steel where the holes are for the skid plates from the factory.:smiley_drive:
 
Will this have a negative effect on gas mileage as far as arrow dynamics?

How much do you think you will spend on purchasing the steel?
 
I can't imagine there would be much lose in MGP due to air flow. There’s a lot of other things the air would go through first. Track bar drag link, axle, I don’t know maybe. I would link that weight would be a bigger factor. The more we bolt on the heavier our rigs get, the worst MPG.

I recently picked up a t-case and gas tank skid from the pick apart. For a grand total of $16 out the door.
I really like the idea of a gas tank skid cause its low and in the rear just waiting for the stuck as I drop down a rise.
