Sky light question

Hey guys I'm thinking about adding a sky light to my truck camper.
I wanted something bigger than my 14x14 fantastic fan something around 18x24 in the opposite side of the roof

Should I just go to an rv shop and buy one or would a big piece of lexan plexiglass etc be any better.
I was thinking a 1/4" piece with aluminum flat bar around the edges and then aluminum on the inside to bolt through. If I do the store bought sky light I'll have to frame it in like my vent fan as there is no framing in the roof.
Plus building my own will keep it low to the roof.

It's not that fancy of a truck or camper but it works for me.

For my truck I bought a used boat hatch off e$bay. The price was right, very waterproof (boat) and being a hatch it allows access to my roof which is 'standonable'.
It installs like a side window so self-framed.

Thanks guys.
Never thought of the escape hatch. It would be cool to stand up through it.
Are they normally clear plastic though?

This is commercially made camper, with zero services.
7 feet wide 8 feet long plus what ever that over hang measures.
Inside height is about 5'5" which isn't too bad since I'm 5'6"
I've added all the electrical which includes.
Deep cycle optima
17" flat screen
Various power outlets
Manual household timer that kills all the power when going to bed
Full queen ikea futon mattress
Carpet tiles
Paint
New curtains
Fantastic fan
Porch light
Dual work lights on the rear
Led dome lights
RGB strip around the ceiling
Stereo

Here's some pretty old pictures.
It's cleaned up quite a bit more now.

Mine is 22"x22". The frame is aluminum and the 'window' is clear plastic. The window has X cross bars so you can stand on the window.
The plastic as been replaced with a very poorly done sealing, so I'll have to redo that. I will leave mine clear as it will work as a skylight in my lavatory (Fuso FG with 14" camper).
But it would of course be easy to replace with a smoked piece when resealing if that is what I wanted.
Mine was rough with the poor sealing and it has one broken latch (repairable) but it was only $14.00, so well worth the little effort to repair it.

I'll suggest a vent specifically made for RV's so you have a chance of buying a replacement lid if it breaks.

Nice additions, BTW.
