"Sleepy" - Equipt's 2004 Toyota Gen 1 Supercharged Tundra w/ AT Atlas
262,300 miles

$38,500.00 Price Adjusted: $35,000.00

Sleepy is perhaps my favorite build we have ever created at Equipt. I know for a fact that it is our shop favorite. It has and does everything exceptionally well. It has been a part of the Equipt family for over 9 years now. Think of it as a ¾ ton Supercharged V8 Tacoma. Now who wouldn’t want that!

With the last known in-box TRD Supercharger under the hood, it is quite a sleeper of a truck. Hence the nickname. We also have commercial airbags and an inline compressor to handle a much larger load. We had an Eezi-Awn rack system and a FWC Fleet on the truck, but settled on a AT Overland Atlas paint matched and loaded. The interior is filled with Aluboxes, a National Luna Auxiliary Battery System, and a National Luna Legacy Smart 50L fridge in an Eezi-Awn fridge slide. We set up a NOCO battery charger with a shore plug connection on the topper as well. I think it is one of the most versatile interiors out there. In the truck interior I swapped the cloth front seats for a pair of Gen 1 Double Cab Leather seats. You sit a bit higher, which is great for offroad visibility. We replaced the back seat with a custom carpeted seat delete to maximize storage space. A bluetooth double din stereo brought the entertainment source up to speed with hands free calling and satellite radio. So it has all the OG feel with up to date capabilities.

Yes, Sleepy has some miles on it. But you wouldn’t know it. When I purchased the truck, I wanted to make sure that it was ready to go. I took it to the Toyota Dealer I work with and had them flush and replace all fluids, do the entire 150K servicing including the timing belt, replace every hose on the engine, and more. During our ownership we have made every effort to ensure Sleepy is in top condition. We’ve had the bearings and brakes worked over, and replaced the shocks. All maintenance has been taken care of. We had the engine compression wet tested prior to adding the charger, to make sure it was a worthy powerplant. At 189K miles, it tested at 185psi across all cylinders. Brand new, they test at 192psi. Last fall I made a solo cross country run to an event in Oklahoma. It was an issue free 2,500 mile round trip. At 65mph, we average 12-13mpg. If you get into it, that comes down to 10-11mpg. I have no doubt at all that it has another couple hundred thousand miles to go.

We are going to miss Sleepy a great deal. But it is time for us to try something new. Someone is going to get one hell of a truck.

Here is a walk through video I made of Sleepy prior to the addition of the Brute Force rear bumper. The rest of the build is accurate.

What a really fantastic build! Sure wish it had been available in 2020 when I was looking. Perfect combination of size and comfort for serious exploration. GLWS!

Paul, you have created a real beauty here! That price is spot on for this setup. I especially like the table behind the spare tire for cooking. Is there a hose that connects to the water container to make access in camp better?

Hi Dale. Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate that. The water container is a 4 gallon unit from Expedition One. They traditionally come with a pour spout. I took a little adventure to Ace Hardware and sorted out a plan for a spout. I am sure there is a way to make that better, but I didn't find anything on the open market.

Any interest in selling camper /equipment without truck?
Hello Arcadia 1415. The Atlas is paint matched to the truck, and there are a lot of integrated items that make the combination a better solution. We are going to keep it all together for now. Thanks for the inquiry.
