i want to put a slide out on my build. here is my link on ih8mud http://forum.ih8mud.com/expedition-builds/236987-building-landcruiser-overland-expedition-20.html i am currently on a trip.

as you can see the slide out is not that big 6'long X 5'high X 17"deep. i want to put one on each side so that the inside space will expand out. i am looking for a simple manual mechanism. i want to avoid electric motor if possible. i would rather extend the slide out manually. please send me link and ideas you may have.

i also want to hear pros and con comments...... thanks:Wow1:

sorry tried adding pictures but cannot.

What do you have hanging on the interior wall? Is it something that could be easily removed?

Instead of a slide out, what about heavy duty hinges on the bottom of the wall. When you get to your site you could unlatch the top, fold the wall down, put it on supports (heavy duty collapsible sawhorses), and then use canvas to make the three remaining sides and the top.

This would be a simple mod since all you would have to do is cut out the section you want with a plasma, install the bottom hinge, install a strong clasp/lock to hold it closed, and voila, that's it.

I'll try and sketch an illustration just in case I didn't explain it well.

thank you very much. nothing is inside right now. the other idea i have is something similar. cut out the the sides, make the side doors open upward. the storage "bench" inside will be about 17" deep x 16" high x 6' long, put the storage bench on a slide so that they will slide out creating more space inside the "camper", then from the about the mid point of the door opening upward put a canvas and screen connected to the outer side of the slide out "bench".

i will do a sketch and take a picture of it so that it will become more clear. again thank you very much. your idea is also an interesting one.

Here's the sketch, excuse the roughness of it but hopefully it relays my point. With this design, there wouldn't be a slide, just the folding wall. With some ingenuity though, you could build storage on the wall that is used when in the upright position and when the wall comes down, you could use it as a platform for a bed. If you went that route, the inside of the box could be used for storage/gear/cooking/sink and the wall would become the bed. There's lots of ways you could go with it, you could do this to both sides and the rear wall and gain quite a bit of space.
