Sliders...

Well I ordered my sliders today from www.trail-gear.com So far from the post I have founf they are a good company with good customer service. I will post up some pics when I get them. Oh, and they have some Tacoma bumpers in the works, that is next on my list:cool:

IMO, you might want to watch out for cutting the pinch welds:

I am assuming you ordered the gusset kit. If not you may also want to add some mounting plates and gussets to prevent stress on the frame similar to these sliders:

Just remember once welded on you can't redo it.

Very nice, those seem to be the best value on the market right now, very cheap compared to some. Good luck on the install and post some pics when their on. Oh yeah, paint everything but the legs first, unlike what the directions say, it is much easier.

They don't come with any guessets that I know of but when I talked to TG they said to do like the second pic and weld a triangle gusset on the top of the slider leg. But knowing me I will add some other ideas to make them alot stronger. That is a good idea on painting them, I don't really feel like masking off the truck. I'm not going to mess with the pinch weld, another 1" or so lower works for me.

Well they are here. These are the cleanest sliders I've seen, and the welds are awsome. The tube used is a nice size diameter. The guesset kit is $50 so I decided to just make my own. They will go on the truck probably next weekend so be ready for some pics:coffee:

Here are some pics of them on jack stands. Any words of wisdom on what angle, and how far out to stick them? I was thinking around 25degree cant, and tuck them in some more.

I welded those same sliders on for a guy named Steve yesterday. I agree you they do a good job of putting them together. We did gusset them with triangle pieces. They seemed a little short...what do you think?
Looks good. Abuse...I mean enjoy them.

Short in length? They are not bad. I am use to seeing sliders that are 1 1/4" pipe so these look big, like they should go on something with 37's. What did you do as far as how far out they stuck? I was thinking of mounting them with the straight bar right under the pinch weld and angling them up a little.

Very nice looking sliders. Angling the outer bar up a little higher will help improve clearance along the outboard edge of the path of the tires. This means the edges of your tires have a better chance to be a little closer to the ground (less articulation required) while the sliders are sliding over stuff - every little bit helps. I wouldn't move the outer tubes too far inboard. You will be glad for the little bit of extra clearance to the sheetmetal when you are tilted into the rocks at an angle and using the sliders to pivot the truck.

I definitely angled mine up -- as to not lose out on any ground clearance, and to maximize protection of the body panels & doors. When deciding on what style to make, I liked the idea of a "kick-out" towards the rear:

However, when you have the "kick-out," you have to watch out for the "kick-back":

This is where I discovered the design flaw of these siders -- they do not go far enough back. I now know the importance of having the rock sliders go all the way from the front fender flares to the rear fender flares.

In the future, I'd like to either extend these sliders back another 4 inches, or start all over with a new design. So far that has been the only body damage received, and the sliders have protected me on many an occasion!

It looks like thery are going on the truck Friday night. I didn't have time this week to get any steel, so I order the gussest kit from Trail-Gear. Yahh, I'm kind of lazy this week so I forked out the cash.

On the TG's (and All-Pro's), I would suggest cutting the middle leg, moving it down a little bit, and adding a fourth leg. Or, adding two more legs in between the current 3. I just don't think 3 is enough support, but others will probably tell you different. Also, make your gussets wrap around the bottom of the frame.

I have four 2x2x.120 square legs on mine, and they still bent up slightly after sitting on them a couple times.

That is exactly what we did...directly under the pinch weld. We didn't cut out the pinch weld as the instructions suggested. If you have the time and tools I suggest welding the sliders to a 1/4" plate and then attaching the plate to the frame with u bolts. Slee does his sliders that way on the LC's and I like it. I did a custom setup and I think Slee's way is easier.
If you just weld them on make sure they are gusseted. It was hard to get the welding gun between the post connecting the sliders to the frame and the body of the truck. Not a lot of room to work makes for bad welds.
We put two pieces of 1.5" OD under the bent outside tube to give them an angle. If you look at the link below you will find that my sliders are angled too...
The set we installed last week had 4 posts connecting the sliders to the frame...not three.
I provided the gussets for the set we installed last week. I had them laying around. They were 4"X4" cut diagonally to form a triangle. The metal shop I go to sells them for $.50-1.00 per piece. I am sure you can find them or make them.

Well they are still in the garage:( I have some side work to do Saturday and Sunday. But hey mo-money right, just means mo-toys!!! The sliders I have do have the four legs on them because they are the longer ones for the XtraCab's. The picture on the TG site is for a standard cab or 4Runner. The guesset kit they sent me is the same as their site. It is a piece of angle and also the triangle guesset. The only thing I have noticed is that these sliders are wider than most so now to figure out what rims to plunk those 255's out past them? Otherwise I will feel like the go-karts at the fun center:shakin:
