Indeed it is! The truck is from Bolivia and came with the winch, when I asked the previous owner what it was (I was looking at a small picture) he said "i don't know, not a toyota one." I have been trying to find out more about them but I cannot find much.

Hold on to that thing with your life. It's probably one of the best winches ever made (basically an improved version of the legendary Warn 8274). ~$5,000 from Toyota.


Errr...I mean it's a piece of junk. I'll take it off your hands so you can avoid the hassle of dealing with it. :sombrero:

Thanks Ryan! even though the 80 is built to the hilt, this truck just brings a smile to my face and I drive it whenever I can. My girls prefer it as well.

Cute kids and nice looking '40. I was doing the front brakes on my truck last weekend and rolled the Mojave Teflons over to the FJ40 to see what they'd look like. You made the right decision with the white wagon wheels. They look perfect on it.



I'm partial to the stock wheels on these vehicles.

Thanks for posting that picture! Before I even bought my 40 I liked the way the ICON Landcruisers looked, it wasn't until budget became an issue and looking at CCOT website did I change my mind. All said I spent $250.00 on all 5 wheels and materials, Teflons would have been $1000.00 plus tax. I am extremely happy with the look and have always loved you 40 as well.

So, now that the 40 is back on the road my girls will ride in nothing but! I had a Father/Daughter dance last week and my oldest (5) called the 40 her carriage, I love my girls!

Well it's been a little over a year now and my 40 is up on blocks awaiting a lift and some new wheels and tires. My 80 is my DD so hence the slow build as I have more time and $$.

A little back gound on my rig - I was looking for a clean no rust 40 and stumbled across this truck not too far from me in Yuma, Az. After a few e-mails and photos a friend and I hopped in the truck and headed down to good old Yuma. The 40 is a 1978 and is originally from Bolivia so you will see some differences from most US spec trucks, I also posted pictures (Bolivian beauty) when I first got the rig. Original color is the Olive but has been painted beige, honestly I would have been fine with either!



Done so far:
Coolant flush
12v outlet
extended brake lines
new slave & brake cyl.
new dif and brake fluid
Line X rear tub
took out fold up seats and installed a CCOT bench seat for my girls
Expo sticker!!




Coming up:
4" lift
33x10.5 MT's
60 series wheels painted white
re-hab OEM winch

Tell us about the functionality and fit of the rear seat. We have kids too and are thinking about putting in a forward-facing rear seat until they get a little older and grow a bit. How is the fit and how much leg or foot room do you have near the rear heater? Can a normal-sized adult fit? Is there enough leg room for a normal-sized adult? Two adults sitting side by side? Thanks!

The back seat is a bench seat from Bestop from CCOT designed for the FJ40. Because I have 2 small girls this was a good solution for us but 2 car seats are right against each other. For shorter trips it would be fine for medium sized adults but again, it is a 40 so leg room will be tight. I do not have a rear heater so I cannot answer this part of your question, but on the CCOT website they do show it installed with the heater so when it tumbles forward it does not interfere.

Do you new tire wheel combo fit in the wheel wells with no over hang?
Also why not upgrade to the reverse shackle set up?

OK, I am finally done with the lift, re-finishing wheels and tires! I ended up going with the Hell Creek lift after many good reviews and I am extremely happy with the way it turned out. My original plan was to go with Mojave teflon wheels but I really like the OEM look so I took 5 - 60 series chrome wheels and sanded and painted them Cygnus white. For tires I went with the 33"x10.5" BFG KM2's as I really like the look and they seem to be getting great reviews. A few after shotsView attachment 88916View attachment 88917
