Small tent trailers

Yea, I'm looking more in the $2K range. Real beginner setup for that.

I mean, once I graduate and start making some real money, maybe a conqueror or something under $10K, but still a lot of money!

The Starcraft 10RT is a nice little unit. It has double beds, but it's still somewhat compact. Plus it's already been "modderfied".

I seriously looked at these before deciding to build my trailer. Only, I wanted the 11RT, so I'd get the storage area up front. Unfortunately as we've seen, the market doesn't want small trailers, and so the smaller ones are discontinued.

Good condition Colorado, seller is asking $1500. Not affiliated...

Other side of the country....

I also have started looking at small enclosed trailers...maybe something 6ftX10. The only problem is that it would be 6ft high to accomodate my height and that's TOTALLY not practical offroad even though it's about as tall my Jeep LOL.

They are beefy, have a rear and side door, couldn't be TOO hard to add a window, right? Easy enough to mount a few dome lights, build a few drawers and table for kitchen area. Raised area with foam pad for sleeping area. It just doesn't fold n go, but it sure hitches n goes.

Might depend on how balsy you are with it too....I just heard a story about a place where guys in huge dually trucks pulling 30ft rv trailers would floor it up a hill, hit the trailer brakes and slide around obstacles on sand because it was too tight a turn...takes guts. LOL

For example: add the aforementioned items and do a SOA...not bad, eh?

It looks like this is the least expensive option presented thus far.

The cheaper alternative is by this company is the Easy Camper at $3,195. What it doesn't have that the Time Out Camper has is tinted windows, an AC adapter, and a chair and table. If it were me, I'd get this one, but I am seriously looking at tents that I can get at REI (my employer!) and using it for roof-top use in the meantime. This baby is only about 320 lbs, measures 31" high by 65 inches long by 43 inches wide (not including hitch length). I imagine you could rent a 5X10 storage room and stand this up besides your other things in storage, which is what I would have to do.

If anyone has one, please let us know how well it works out.

there are a couple of these listed on the houston CL, and have been for a while, at $1895. would make it very secure as well if you wanted to use it as a basecamp and store stuff during the day.

went looking for a link for the enclosed trailer and found this: http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/1671936041.html

with a wider axle and bigger tires, it might be interesting.

Strizzo, it may be $1900, but you forget that you have to add in the costs of tools, supplies, and parts to make it, not to mention you can't upend it in storage. And a lot of apartment complexes don't allow for project work in the parking lots. Do you have a solution besides this one?

well, theres always the little $700 tent trailer in the second half of my post. or, since the enclosed trailer has been listed for quite some time, you might could talk them down a few bucks on the price.

Anyone know anything about rockwood popups? There is a small one (not quite colorado sized) near me.

Jumping Jack trailers might be a consideration for you:

I have had one for a few years and it works well for mild off-road adventures. Mine has upgraded rims and tires that help. The tent if very roomy and the design and construction are excellent.

Cheers,
Greg

just found this company, not sure if they still make the "lil diamond", but it seems like it would be nice mounted into a 4 or 5 x 8' utility trailer, with 31" tires and an axle flip, it could be decent for mild offroading.

considering utility trailers cost like $4-700 and pop up tent campers run around 4-6k

That's pretty neat for those people who don't want a full on Four Wheel Camper popup! Thanks for that.

I've officially settled on sticking to my tent. I can't afford to buy a trailer HAHA, I was just obsessive a bit :D.

I've got a ************ tent and I intend to use it!

If you change your mind, my solution to the expensive trailer dilemma is a govt liquidation m116a2. I picked this one up for $400 and that is a sweet deal for this thing! Surge brakes, handbrakes for both tires, D-rings on all four corners, 36" tires and everything is heavy duty.

Trim the corners to narrow it down a bit:

then build a simple tube cage that will support a trailer top tent. here's a quick sketch of the cage:

And the most expensive part, the tent from gordigear (the site says 1700 but i've seen it go for 1600 on ebay several times):

And there you have it. An offroad camper trailer for $2k.
