Whatever you do, please consider synthetic line. That steel cable stuff is just plain scary when it snaps. This guy has great prices (no affiliation):

I had the XRC on my Xterra and for the few times I used it, it did very well.

The winch itself is made from all Mile Marker stuff.

Here is the install with pics of the inside of the winch

Had my XRC for just under a year. It gets used heavily in the spring to help clear timber from FS roads. It does great. Isn't fast, but haven't had any problems with it.

Ive had mine for about 2 years now, and agree that its slow, but has never let me down after numerous hard pulls. I did the upgrade to Amsteel synthetic line, and it was worth every penny. I also replaced all the
external bolts with stainless steel since the stock ones rust. I also hooked up a wireless remote control system. I am buying another for the rear of my XJ

Holy remote, batman! I'll have to snag one of those for mine. I hate mussing with the cord and I am always standing in a place I would rather not stand during operation. Is that the 7075 remote?

Smitybuilt is made by T-Max in OZ check them out, I just got a 9000# for $371 no shipping from 4 wheeel parts. Who cares if it's slow? you are allready going nowhere.

Excellent winch! I have used mine (more than 25 times) for more than a year and is still great. It is slow but it gets the job done and costumer service is top notch, HIGHLY recommended. I'm getting the new 12K lb for my Land cruiser.
My friends have Warn M8000 and 9.5XP and they have already broken at least 2 times each. The warns usually over heat and the solenoids just burn out and the smitty is the one that have to finish the pull.

TMax is made in China, FWIW. Still good winches.
