What are you rigging for, Motorhome sized rig?

If the SWL you are looking for is 36K and the ring is MBS is over 100K......and you want to use a 3:1 FOS......
It is ballpark in the range you wanted, That was my point.
This stuff is generally rated 5-6:1 for SWL because it is coming from overhead lifting/rigging applications.
In my opinion, that is just getting to point of being silly overkill for off road recovery.

The do make a 2" version, but I haven't been able to get my hands on one.

I would love to learn to tie knots like that. I assume it is some type of monkey fist.

Most soft shackles use a button knot, and there are various ways to terminate the "tails". They are very difficult to tie, and certainly take practice. As well, once you have built a soft shackle, it really needs to be tensioned, that's pretty easy to do, you can do it with a high lift jack, or just wrap a limb saver on a tree, hook your winch to it via the shackle, and put some tension on it, don't go nuts, but a good a out of tension and leave it there for a few minutes.
