So 4wheelparts, Stockton, CA wouldn't touch my 06 Montero

ARB lockers or leave it stock. Aussie would ruin the driveability of the truck. Horrible idea.

Do you have experience with an Aussie front locker? I have one waiting to go in and haven't seen anything really bad in reviews, just the front pushing a bit under power turns.

It's gotta beat a front open diff

They do require learning how to lock them when you want. Usually the people that complain about 'driveability' simply don't know how to use them. But that's just been my experience with them.

Gen 2 or Gen 3? No manual locking hub options for Gen 3, I'd think it would be problematic having an Aussie in the front of a Gen 3 as a daily driver.

have ran Aussie locker in mine with welded rear for many years. no problems other than you have to watch when turning full lock with 4wd engaged. Front axles are weak point and will break. that is something that is learned the hard way with experience on any locked front end. I have looked into upgraded front axles but after thinking it though i would rather replace a cv axle on the trail than the internal axle shaft or grenaded differential. Aussie will make front stearing stiffer but nothing you cant get used to. It is not for everyone i will say. Mine is a work monty that gets used in everything and is far from a pavement pounder so i love my aussie and welded rear.

Yes, I've run one in the front diff and rear diff on various rigs. Much better in the front. But makes driving in snow less safe, more difficult turning (at times) and decreases turning radius.

I would leave it open or ARB. Anything that decreases the driveability or reliability isn't worth spending money on (in my opinion).

In reality, I rarely use my front locker. Rear gets uses rather often off road. I'll flip the ARB front on to get over certain obstacles (typically only for 5-10ft sections of trail). Rear CVs are much stronger and will handle the locked diff without breaking.
