So. Cal Big Bear camping question.

My kids want to go camping before back to school. Busy with work, I only have Sat night to Sunday morning trip. My plan is to leave Orange County at 5:00 PM and head to Big Bear for one night camp. I know that there is a place in Big Bear that you can camp next to the lake. Can someone help me to find the tread? I searched but no luck.
Is there any reservation or first come first serve? For the Sat. site, it must be very hard to get reservation.
Thank you,
Tyler

The campground next to Big Bear Lake is called Serrano. I believe they do take reservations for that campground, and yes, I would not be surprised if the rest of the summer weekends were booked already. You can find out more by checking the San Bernardino Nat Forest web site.

You can find information about all the campgrounds in the Big Bear area on the website.

Most of the main campsites up there have a set number of sites for reserve only, and a small number set aside as a firts come/first served availability, although those book up quickly. Personally I like the Buttercup group cam up there - must be reserved, but very close to the lake, extremely easy access (just a click down the road from Snow Summit) so it has the middle of nowhere feel in the camp itself, but its a 2 minute drive to the lake/stores, etc

You can try Green Valley Lake. There is a great campground about 1 mile from the lake. The upper loop is very tucked away and is very nice!
