So how are the JKs holding up?

Considering a purchase of a jk unlimited - how are they reliability wise? Average mpg? 17? I checked some jk boards and they kind of remind me of Land Rover boards/forums - a total nightmare potentially?

I'm asking here because the peeps on Ezp have more honesty and clarity

Im in the NE so a lot of snow driving and ice. I have a 4 year old and I'm a single father, so reliability is a biggy for me

Is the diesel a possibility soon or are we still dreaming

Thanks

Mine is a 2012 JKU sport with 54,000 miles has had no issues whatsoever. That being said I went low tech with my purchase so I got a 2012 stripped down version with 6 speed manual, manual windows and manual doorlocks and I love it. On highway I got around 21 with stock tires and 18 in town. This past week I upgraded the suspension and tires to 3.5" AEV SC lift and Toyo AT2 extremes in 35" and it drives even better. My MPG has suffered about 3 mpg in town and the highway mileage has stayed about the same

My boss's 2012 sport is on its second set of cylinder heads and second transmission and it's a city jeep only.

One of my very close friends owned a 2007 JK from 07-2012 and had only one issue with the O2 sensor. We wheeled some pretty difficult tracks and it held up very well. When he sold it the 3.21 gears had been swapped with 4.88s and detriots front/rear.

He also had manual everything so it was pretty simple in terms of a vehicle.

I have a 2009 unlimited JK with 110,000 miles on it. I have a 3.5" Metalcloak lift and 35's. I have lived in Colorado, California, Maine, and Mass with it. Ton of snow driving and weather. I literally drove it cross country from CA to Maine in it. Drive it off road a ton. I don't baby it, drive it hard, but take good care of maintenance etc.

I have had very few problems and nothing I couldn't fix myself. I just had to replace the EGR valve, only thing I can remember.

I don't see a lot of issues around the board or mags either. Some here and there but I think they are rather reliable.

I previously owned 3 Land Rovers, and there is no comparison.

I was worried about reliability but not anymore.

Lemons do sneak through but on the Wrangler Forum the vast majority are happy. The other neat thing about Wranglers is the factory lifetime warranty. Most dealerships want $5000 but there are two dealership guys over there selling that policy between $1850 t0 $2000. So as long as you own it. (Can transfer it once.) bumper to bumper except wear items. If it breaks you slap down a C note and they pay the rest. It also includes $35.00 a day for a rental car.

But I found out it was all a scam! When you get the actual paperwork the length of the warranty is only 27 years and your mileage is limited to 999,999.00 miles. Also in 26 years if your engine blows and costs $10,000 to fix but your jeep is only worth $7,000. They'll only pay the value of the jeep towards the repair.

So next month when I step up to a new JKU I'll get the warranty too. I figure a module, computer, electric window etc. and it's paid for itself.

No, I don't work for jeep.

I have an '08 JK Unlimited Rubicon that is used pretty hard and is heavily modified (see signature). I have less that 30K miles on it. It has never left me stranded, but here is the list of parts replaced (under the Lifetime Warranty I have):

Transmission bearing (popped out of first gear all the time)
Two Power steering pumps
front driveshaft
front differential pinion bearing
left front axle shaft
Front right axle seal

I've replaced on my own:

Front left brake caliper
Rear left brake caliper
Front pads
rear pads (three times)
Rear rotors
Rear e-brake shoes (on third set and it still does not work correctly - crap design)
Both front Unit bearings

None of these were deal breakers, however, I've never owned a vehicle that had any of these issues. Engine has been trouble free (though it is the old 3.8L).

I love my Jeep and will drive it into oblivion.

Newer ones are nicer and faster, and I would buy one again if I could afford it. Hope that helps. Oh, and I get 18MPG pretty consistently.

2012 JKUR auto.

Zero issues so far. I off road, do my own maintenance, etc.

The mileage is absolute crap though. I get like 15 city, 17-18 highway. That's completely stock.

Edit: 4.10s from factory.

2012 two door Sport, Automatic, power windows, 3.73 gears, 32" tires.
Just over 30,000 miles and not a single ussue.

Its taken me to moab a few times, all around the grand canyon, through snow covered mountains, on beaches, towed my teardrop trailer, as well as to and from work.

I've had a low of just over 17mpg and a high of just under 24mpg with a normal average right around 20-21.
It has been a great vehicle so far.

Mine is a 2011 Unlimited Rubicon with a six speed and creeping up on 50K miles.

Warranty work: None.

I do my own maintenance and run Amsoil fluids in everything as I change them.

It is conservativly lifted, bumpered, geared and pulls my teardrop everywhere. it is my daily driver and our go-to, on and off road cross country vehicle.

Naked she hovers around15 - 17 mpg. While towing I put the display on the compass and outside air temp. I looked once and it scared me!

I believe will always have a JK no matter what else may occupy the driveway. They are just too much fun to drive!

07 4 door unlimited Sahara 105K miles. Purchased in 08 with 9k on the clock

burns a little oil, switched to 5W30, burns less now.

I replaced the (slowly) leaking water pump a couple weeks ago ~$50.

It was on DD duty until 2012. I've wheeled it hard and often, however I usually creep over obstacles, slept in the back countless times, and its been across the country. I do all of the fluids before the factory recommended intervals.

I still stand in the garage and drink beer and just look at it. Often.

I will never part with it.:smiley_drive:

Being looking for an Green 08 JKUR for the longest time....they are so dual-purpose, it isn't even funny! I hope one day (this year) I can finally put my greedy little hands on one and keep it until death do us part!

I have an O7 JKU Sahara, mainly stock with about 65K on it. I put on the last 30K. Its my DD, and I have a short commute. It did make one cross country trip, and I use it to pull a Tear Drop trailer now and then. No major issues, I need to have the gas filler fixed since it pukes everytime I fill it, but that has a lifetime warranty. I use a quart of oil about every 3K miles, less if I use the 5w30. Its currently on 33s with a Leveling kit. I get 12 -13 mpg in the city, and about 19 on flat ground ( there isn't much around here though), so its more like 17. Mileage was a little better before the lift and tires.

Original owner of an '07 JKU Sahara purchased October 2006. 80k miles, daily driver and wheeled frequently. I've never had an abnormal mechanical issue. Only stuff you'd expect of a wheeled vehicle.
