Soft shackles?

Want a few but want quality I can trust with being affordable.
I don’t have a winch but do use arb straps,maxtrax and shovel.

They are fun to make yourself and far cheaper than buying from a 4x4 shop. There are several threads on Expedition Portal on this.

I love them but stay away from the cheap Chinese ones. Order from a reputable company.

I have one of these, and its a beautifully made solid piece of kit.

When you buy recovery equipment look for products labeled correctly and match it for the weight of your vehicle. A few companies to look at for quality soft shackles made with US or Canadian rope.

There is a local (to me) rigging company. They are strictly commercial stuff but it's all the same. See if there is a crane/rigging supply co near you. Then you don't get the "toy tax" premium but you still get certified, quality gear.

I thought this was interesting, hadn't seen anyone testing soft shackles to destruction before. Pretty logical conclusions: they're likely to break where the loop goes around the knot (as that's where it's single-strand, and likely to be the minimum bend radius). And if you're looping around something smaller than that, you're likely reducing the break strength. So the sharp corner of a recovery point for a bow shackle is bad - but there's no need to go crazy with large radii as you can't do anything about where the loop crosses the knot.

After looking at this for the last few days why not just stick with a proven shackle.
They seem to never be the weak link if you use a quality one.
Seems the recovery point,strap or cable is the weak links.

If the recovery point breaks, then the steel shackle flys and can kill.

Can use tether lines on shackles if you are concerned. It is another piece of equipment to carry, and another step to take, but if you want to be safe..

If you do not have a secure place for the shackle, a tether is not making it any safer.

because that is not the latest and greatest....nothing like whipping out your soft shackle from its pouch to impress.........I will say I used soft shackles a couple weeks ago for the first time..one chinese cheapo and one factor-55 hd and both did a great job and were pretty impressive how they worked. They were my buddies and after I got home I was going to order a couple but then I looked at my nice steel shackles and have not pulled the trigger yet....
