That is what the SMB build sheet says as an upgrade. I have the SMB at the mechanic for an inspection so will look at the manual and report back on its return. I also sent a note to Peter at Field Vans about this question as well.

As a fellow SMB owner, the mechanic is its natural habitat. ? I kid, I kid (though mine is at the mechanic right now too).

What is the 'extreme insulation' upgrade?

This answer is straight from Field Van:
Extreme weather insulation is basically additional insulation than we use on a standard build. We add more on the door pockets, walls and floor.

New forum member here and complete newbie when it comes to knowledge of van conversions. Sincere question here: what is the purpose of--or how effective / useful is--extreme weather insulation on ANY van with lots of windows? I'm aware that you can place reflectix or other material on the windows to reflect back solar heat, but I am under the impression that a vehicle with lots of windows is much harder to insulate than (for instance) a vehicle with the exact same insulation but fewer or even no windows (other than the front windshield & driver / passenger windows obviously). I'd appreciate anyone explaining where I'm right or wrong on this.

With the day and night shades pulled down which are honeycomb they do add some additional thermal block. The added insulation in doors, walls and floor help. I have had other SMBs without this additional insulation and it make a difference.

Re: Insulating windows - It is actually pretty easy to create very effective inserts that provide very good insulation - Refectix/Coroplast/some interior material with lots of trapped.

The windshield is the most difficult but it can be addressed with a folding reflectix type sunscreen and a material hanging from the sunvisor area and attached with snaps.

Still air is what insulation is all about. Trap the air and create a thermal break. The floor board/firewall can be very cold /draft area -

Insulating the walls, floors and ceiling plus an insert for the windows in a fixed top van and an Espar B1/D2 will keep you very warm running on low below 0F.

This is a very tricked out first class rig.
