1987 Toyota 4Runner

~296,000 on odometer- READ ON
~100,000 on rebuilt motor, transmission, and t-case
~5,000 on new drive line components (U-joints, CVs, ball joints, etc)

The Good-
-Ball joint spacer lift in front
-Add-a-leaf and lift blocks in rear.
-Custom drawer system
-Roof rack
-Hella 500s on bumper Hella Rallye 4000 (older version) on roof rack
-Safari Snorkel
-Pioneer stereo system with CD player
-Custom waterproof seat covers
-New dash cap
-Upgraded intake manifold and throttle body (from a '94 22RE if I recall correctly)
-AC WORKS!!!!!
-1999 4Runner 16" wheels- 265-75 R16 Bridgestone Dueler on front Buckshot Mudder on rear (I do have two matching duelers)
-New clutch still in box.
-New battery installed in May- have warranty papers on it.
-Newish exhaust (cat and muffler)
-New alternator (replaced in parking lot in Arkansas)

Worse for wear-
-Seats under seat cover show age
-Plastic trims inside truck have cracking (B pillar and plastics along removable top)
-Front crank seal dribbles oil- hey its auto undercoating- no rust on the truck! I have replacement part.
-Oil pan gasket weeps. I have replacement part.
-Could use brake system upgrade. Stock system works.
-Driveline vibrations caused by improper rear lift. I've driven less than 500 miles on the setup. I'd recommend proper lift springs and longer shackles to achieve the same lift. At the very least, removing the lift blocks and adding longer shackles will solve vibrations.
-The plastic bumperettes find new homes on each trip...

The build thread

The old 4runner has reliably taken my family and I on quite a few trips, with the farthest being to Colorado in August- thank goodness for AC!
Due to a growing family, the want to take the dogs on camping trips, and desire to pull an offroad trailer we upgraded to a 95 Mitsubishi Montero (four doors and V6 for the win!).

Would like to get $3300, obo. Located in Denton, TX ~30 north of Dallas/Ft. Worth.

I am willing to help arrange shipping. I am willing to pickup buyer at DFW airport.

I am interested in trading for an FJ40 Land Cruiser, Series III Land Rover, Nissan Patrol, classic Bronco, or KTM640 Adventure.

Bit of damage to the flimsy bumper.... I got stuck in a rut at an angle....

I stupidly sling-shot a log into the fiberglass top.... small cracks. Does not let weather in.

The marker lens blew off one day on the interstate.

The limp knob is for the cruise control..... Cruise doesn't work. But, i've never tried to fix it or hook it up for that matter. I think its aftermarket.

Thanks Lee. The fella who bought it was super excited too. I was glad it went to another enthusiast (and one with a higher expendable income) as well. :)

Great to hear! I guess I need to start watching the Montero build thread now. I bet some new goodies for it start showing up! :)

Well, the boss has allocated the $$$$ from the 4runner for a portion of the down payment for our first home. Aka, not for an FJ40. Sneaky women... "ohhh I want an FJ40, lets sell the 4runner...." one week later..."I like this house, can we buy it?"

The good news, I now have a garage to work on my junk. The bad news. I'm broke again.

I feel your pain Scott; sold a motorcycle I really liked to make the down payment on our first house, and another even better one to pay for a new A/C system in another house. Vehicles come and go, and there will be another 40 to buy for a long time from now, but a good and happy wife is permanent. :)
