2001 Ford Excursion 4x4 Limited
9,265 Actual Miles
6.8L V10
4.10 Gearing with Limited Slip
Located in St. Ansgar, IA 50472
$20,995 OBO

The Excursion is completely stock. I bought it in July 2018 from a dealer in New Hampshire. It was owned by a man who kept it at his second home hence the low miles. I am the second owner. I bought it sight unseen and had the dealer replace essentially everything "that could go wrong in the next 40,000 miles". So all of the fluids were replaced, everything was serviced, new shocks, new fuel lines, new belts, new tires, new brake pads, new brake calipers, and more.

The dealer said it was "absolutely perfect" so I paid a premium and had it delivered to Iowa. In transit the shipper managed to put a dent near the passenger headlight and scratch the plastic rocker panel cover (not sure what to call it). I have included pictures for reference. Probably not a big deal but it should be disclosed. Secondly, the Excursion is not "absolutely perfect" as the dealer had claimed. The interior is immaculate, the mechanicals are excellent, and it drives amazingly well, really like new. BUT, there is corrosion that wasn't disclosed to me. I may just be over-critical, and I definitely am particular with my vehicles - I only want the best, but I was not happy when I received the vehicle and there was any corrosion at all. I was looking for an absolutely new vehicle. So, look at the pictures and I am not claiming that this is perfect.

It was doubly upsetting to me because I spent so much on replacing all of the other things. My thought is that someone who is actually going to really use this Excursion will appreciate the low miles ,excellent mechanical and interior condition and the fact that someone recently spent a bunch of money going through the whole vehicle.

In April my fourth child was born and it was pretty apparent that the whole family couldn't really fit into my Jeep or Land Rovers any more. I set my mind on buying a new 2018 Expedition but when I actually drove one I was unimpressed. I had a hard time imagining it on any technical terrain and there was practically no aftermarket support for the new Expedition. So I decided to buy a "new" Excursion (partly because of the writeup on here of the ExPo Green Diesel Excursion which I thought looked pretty good). So I looked everywhere for what I wanted which was the 4x4 V10 with 4.10 and LSD. In April I found a green one with 30,000 miles so I bought that and started to modify it and then a little while later I found this white one and decided that I couldn't pass up an Excursion with 9,265 miles and I would keep it as a back-up once I had driven the wheels off of the green one since these things are hard to find with low miles. But, I got annoyed when it was damaged in transit and when it wasn't perfect and I realized that the Excursion is pretty big and it was taking up a lot of storage space and I wasn't using it.

So, straight-up, it is nice, but it isn't perfect. I paid for a perfect truck and it wasn't and that made me mad. You know that it isn't perfect and the price has been adjusted accordingly. My loss your gain.

Pictures to follow.

I prefer social distancing.
Corrosion? Do you mean rust? It appears some of it is visible under that black, shiny stuff on the undercarriage. Do you think that stuff was sprayed on there by dealer to hide corrosion?
Sorry your purchase wasn't what you were expecting.

So, only perfection will do? Man, that sounds like an expensive standard.

How bad is the rust? Unless it was bad enough to affect the safety of the vehicle, I would drive the hell out of that truck until the wheels fell off. That's the only way you are going to recover your $$$$

The black is the "complementary corrosion prevention" that the dealership did. It is comprised of zinc coating and waxoyl.

The corrosion is not "bad". It is not structural or affecting the safety of the vehicle as far as I know. But it all depends on what your expectations are. If you were in Minnesota and got under this Excursion you would think "This is nice" if you were in Arizona, maybe not.

I don't think there is much chance I will get my money back out of the thing especially when I factor my time. Just looking to find a better home. Let me know if you have an offer.

I am not saying corrosion because it is a "prettier" term than rust, but because it is the correct term from an engineering standpoint. Corrosion is a process which converts a refined metal to a more chemically-stable form, such as its oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment. Rusting, the formation of iron oxides, is primarily the result of chemical reactions with oxygen and sulfates. Rusting is specifically the oxidation of iron. This vehicle is made of steel which is an alloy which includes iron, but also other metals so the proper and accurate term is corrosion.
