I’d like to begin by saying I’m EXTREMELY sad to be selling this SUV. If it were up to me I would keep this vehicle forever. The Elements are already known for their unmatched utility and the eCamper truly makes this vehicle a place you could call home.

By buying an eCamper, you’re be joining a vast, adventurous, inventive, and amazing community of fellow eCampers around the USA (and some international friends too!) eCampers are literally the perfect mix – with the comforts of an RV and the convenience of a small SUV. This is a great multipurpose vehicle which you can camp, take on cross-country road-trips, or use as an everyday vehicle…many people even live in theirs! For this wondering, I’m 6’4”, 230lbs, and have no problem sleeping up top with my wife and 6-month old. We’ve made lots of tasteful and smart additions to the vehicle to make your camping experience even better. This car has been dutifully maintained with all fluids/maintenance/repair records and I have the pink slip in hand.

It’s a great car and one you and your family will cherish for years to come. Now onto the info:

Prob with the Airbag Light is that legit Smog Shops will ‘Fail’ it, making Title Transfer a Headache.

Did you do any interior mods for overland / camping gear, or is it just the roof mod ?

Thanks

“The airbag warning light is on but the airbags all work. If you know Elements, most all of them have this known-issue. I’ve been assured by multiple independent mechanics and two Honda dealerships that this is NOT an airbag issue,”

These are great little camping cars. And being AWD, this one is kinda a unicorn. Low mileage too!

So, did you get the airbag recalls done on this one?
If you did, that should have solved the idiot light problem, shouldn’t it?

2005 HONDA ELEMENT RECALL - #19V182000

But then again, maybe not. The light being on seems to be a common problem with these.

The airbag warning light is on but the airbags all work. If you know Elements, most all of them have this known-issue. I’ve been assured by multiple independent mechanics and two Honda dealerships that this is NOT an airbag issue, and that there is a malfunction in the driver’s side seatbelt sensor that causes it

Could you provide some record of this being the diagnostic response by the shop?

That might help as there is some confusion on the Honda boards about this....i.e., whether the idiot light being on is in fact an indication that the airbag might not deploy properly when needed.

How long have you owned the Element? Are you the original owner?
How long has the airbag warning light been a problem with your Element?

Here’s one possible SRS light easy fix you might try:

“For what its worth... I had the same issue, I first reset the light and it came back on within a couple of days.Did this twice before I checked the code, which pointed to the driver seat buckle. Then noticed 2 screws on the buckle, I thought, hmm, let's see what's inside. The 2 screws just hold on the cover, my real concern was it would fall apart when I opened it. That can't happen with the way its designed. It's all tight inside and won't fall apart. What I did find was 9 years of dust, hair, and food particles inside. I blew it out with a can of air, then used an electrical spray contact cleaner on the switch that is inside. I got the cleaner from radio shack some time ago. Put the cover back on, reset the light, and it hasn't come back on. That was over a year ago.”

SEAT BELTS
FEBRUARY 05 2008

TSB #08-008
NHTSA ID #10024629
Summary:
SRS INDICATOR COMES ON WITH SRS DTC 3-1 OR 4-1. *NJ

This might be the TSB covering this airbag light problem.

Wow thank you for that piece of advice! This might actually be what's been causing the issue, since every other suggestion has been addressed multiple times to no avail. I have a can of DeOxIt already so I'll give that a go today.

See:

Yes, had the recall work on the airbag done by the dealership, which was one of the two dealerships I took it to that assured me the airbags are working and will deploy.

One more bit on this:

This was a 2012 post, so maybe you could still get this done for free?
“SRS light came on my 05 Element. Took to dealer. They determined that they have to replace the seat belt buckle on the driver side. Covered by seat belt lifetime warranty.”
From: https://www.elementownersclub.com/threads/srs-indicator-airbag-light-stays-on-2005-element-ex.72333/

That's interesting. I took it to the dealership and was told the same thing EXCEPT that because there wasn't any structural damage to the seatbelt and because it was the sensor that it was not covered. I might try my luck at another dealership upon hearing this. Thank you!

Hi there, I've smogged the vehicle at a STAR certified place with no problem. Was definitely not a shady place. But as per other suggestions in the thread im going to try and clean out the seatbelt housing.

I'm the second owner and purchased it from a dealership in Bakersfield 3 years ago. In terms of interior mods, I've tried to keep in spartan inside and basically had a couple "bug-out" boxes that fit in when the camping bug bit. Mostly because I use this car as both my everyday vehicle and camper. The carpets are a nice addition as is the LED bulbs and window insulators. But I haven't installed anything like a 5th Element camping system, if that's what you're asking. I hope this helps :)

Are you E.E., the photographer guy?

If so, I gotta say....some of the pictures on your portfolio site are stirringly beautiful.

(And if that isn’t you, oh well...the Element photo is cool too!)

Thanks so much, photography is a hobby of mine, I really do need to update my website but those are indeed my photos. I really appreciate the kind words.

Welcome Newbie. This forum is a great place to share photos like yours and we have several separate threads here where folks do just that. Check them out when you get a chance and consider posting some of your artfully arranged scenes there.

Update: So I attempted to open up the seatbelt casing and clean it out... it was actually in decent shape but I gave it a good deoxidation anyway. Light still wouldn't go off after a reset so I took it into a different dealership and they indeed diagnosed the Driver's seatbelt mechanism as the issue and are replacing it under warranty. Turns out all dealerships are not equal. Once I get the car back and confirm the Airbag light is off I'll make a new for-sale post. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I truly appreciate it.
