Too bad it dosen't get 15mpg+

Our Audi S5 doesn't get 15mpg either.

Yet, it did not keep me from driving it from Phoenix, AZ to Kansas City, MO one year when the Roadtrek was not available. That was 1,200 miles...with two dogs. And in the spirit of the Roadtrek of not staying in hotels, we boondocked in parking lots and the dogs and I slept in the S5's trunk.

This is tempting...

On the fresh water tank(s) - was that a typo? Only 10 + 15 gallons? Roadtrek's page indicated a 31 gallon tank, but that was for a 170 Versatile, and different model year.

On the vehicle itself - any rust issues, particularly underneath? Has it been a southwest vehicle since new? (I. E. have you lived in the SW since 2006) Any water leaks, particularly in the roof?

I apologize for my naiveness in regard to mechanics and automobile aspect but I do not understand what you mean by are there "any rust issues". I thought all vehicles have rust underneath as the attached pictures show.

If what you ask is there rust above the undercarriage the answer is no. If you have not visited the blemish pictures on Flickr this is the link (https://www.flickr.com/photos/joseangeltorres/sets/72157644651910230/). If those do not answer your concerns please let me know and I will try to get you other pictures you need.

With regard to the fresh water tanks. Not a typo. There are two tanks for a total of 25gals. Indoor is a 10gal tank that is in a climate controlled environment that you can use in the winter. Outside is another 15gal tank that is exposed to outside temperatures and in cold climates must be winterized to avoid it from freezing. Yes, the 170 Versatile is a different model. And the 190 Versatile, our Roadtrek model, is no longer produced.

Again, as I read your question about "rust issues, particularly underneath" I hope I answered that question as I am not sure what you meant. Other than travel the vehicle has been based in Houston, TX and Phoenix, AZ, both in the southwest, since we purchased it in 2006. Actually in Nov 2005 but it is a 2006 Model. As for water leaks none that I am aware of. Keep in mind, the vehicle is based in Phoenix, AZ where it rarely rains, however, with the recent floods in Phoenix there is no evidence of water leaks indoor. With regard to the roof specifically I will disclose this, I removed the satellite dish before heading south to avoid that being on someone's interest list (if you know what I mean) and I had the holes plugged up. On the trip it rained quite a bit, especially in Panama, and no water leaks. When I got back, the dish was reinstalled and no leaks from it. However, somehow a mechanism inside that lifts and lowers the antenna inside does not work and rather than have it removed I chose to leave it in place for the next own to decide to repair it or not. On top of that, somehow or someone, broke a cabin window and rather replace it I repaired it temporary with plexiglass and it does not leak either. Lastly, there is an accidental puncture with a screw, and it is included in the blemish pictures, and it was repaired temporary as well and it does not leak either.

I believe I answered those for you as best as I can. Thanks for the interest.

Thanks for the updated info. In all likelihood, I think I'll have to pass on this. I spent a lot of time going through the pics, and searching for more info on the Roadtrek. For our use, the smaller water capacity and lack of the 4th seat (where the optional cabinet is on yours) are probably deal breakers.

I wish you were closer by, as I'd love to take a look. It's hard to compare the overall inside size to our current setup - a Northstar 8-foot popup camper on a GMC Sierra 2500 ext cab. Some friends have Sportsmobiles, so I'm familiar with the size and feel of those designs.

Long shot - any chance you'll be near Moab, Utah, in the first week of October? We'll be there for a bike trip.

I understand the need for more water and why we carried an additional 12gal (two 6gal plastic containers)on top of the box on the bumper in the summer and in the winter we carried the extra 12gals inside (one 6gal container behind the driver seat and the other one inside the passenger side closet). The driver side cabinet is optional, however, it is interchangeable with the 4th seat. In order words, you can have one or the other but not both at the same time. The change from one to the other takes about 10mins. The inside is similar to a Sportsmobile only in the sense that the interior space is the same. The difference is not only that the Roadtrek interior is well thought out and the same space is maximized but the craftsmanship inside the Roadterk is superior to Sportmobile, however I am biased. Not sure I can make it to Moab next week. Hope that provides more info for you and others. Thanks for the comments. Let me know if you have more.

Thanks again for the info - maybe I missed it somewhere, but do you have the 4th seat also? (the one that goes in place of the cabinet behind the driver's seat)

We do have the 4th seat. If you like I could install it and take a picture of that set up too, however, the earliest I can do that would be Wednesday, 1 Oct 2014. Let me know if you need to see the picture.

I found an old Roadtrek brochure online -- PDF here:
http://www.lichtsinn.com/IRV/Files/286034_1.pdf

Does your Versatile have the cross-ways bed in the back? From the old brochure, it looks like it's a double/full size bed as the standard layout, which might be a little short for us (me: 6'0"; wife: 5'9").

We are both 5' 5" and sleep perpendicular to the vehicle and not a problem. However, 6'0" and even 5'9" maybe not so. Unless you were willing to flex at the waist and knees. Having said that, I know there are folks of your height who do own Roadtreks. By the way, if you looked in a current Roadtrek brochure you would find OUR Roadtrek pictured there as the 4x4 option (although our 4x4 was after-market and not by Roadtrek--but no one needs to know that. Roadtrek also uses our YouTube vehicle as a link for their 4x4 option.). Hope the info helps.

Thanks - the bed size isn't going to work for us.

Coming from a standard queen size in the popup camper, even a standard double (full) is getting a little cramped.

Thank you for your interest and I understand it not fitting, no pun intended, your search. More important, thanks for your questions as I am sure others will find them helpful. Good luck in your search and whatever it may be that you enjoy it.

I thought our 75lbs Boxer, one of two of our co-pilots might give you, others, a better idea of what the rear bed looks like.
