As long as it doesn't tun into a money pit. It's going to need tires. Even though they have plenty of tread, after looking close at them, they have quite a bit of weatherchecking.

I picked up the wrecked one this morning.

I'll get back to you on that Jim. I'd like to have some spare parts just in case.

I got the engine, transmission and transfer case out of the wrecked rig. (I need a new phone. The camera sucks)

Love seeing some trooper builds, but bummer the eagle is gone, I am more of an eagle fan than a trooper fan! Eitherway, I just discovered this site yesterday and I am tickled to be seeing so many unique 4x4 builds here!

Is that automatic the one that has the transfer case cast into the transmission housing? I read the early automatic transfer cases have a lower low range ratio.
I know with the newer ones you can replace the 4L30E with an Aisan-Warner trans from a Jeep Cherokee. The 3.2 and 3.5 Isusu engines used the GM 60 degree V6 bell housing bolt pattern.
The 2.6 is a great engine as long as you can avoid overheating it. There are articles about swapping in a 3 core Toyota V6 radiator to prevent overheating the engine.
Will be following your progress!

Lol, you picked a great time to visit...

Are you guys doing some test drilling for the mine?

Were doing some hydro testing for a proposed mine. The drilling has been done over the past 10 years. It's fun trying to keep everything from freezing when dealing with water in these temps. I'm not sure of the details, but it has something to do with it being easier to get certain permits from the forest service in the winter.

Probably because you dont crush everything under the heavy vehicles. being in the military i know about tearing up a forest after bombing around a few heavy vehicles here and there :bike_rider:

Nice Trooper. Come on over to the planet and join us. Check out my build threads there. Not much on a 1st gen that I haven't covered in these. I haven't read this whole thread just grazed it. But usually the 2.6 doesn't need short block work just a new head and/or gasket. The auto in the 1st gens is pretty bombproof (unlike the GM POS in the 2nd gens) though it does suck down some of the massive power of the 4ZE1!

Just a word of warning. 1st gen Troopers can become very habit forming.
