***SOLD*** Unimog U1550 L/37

Well, after owning this beautiful rig for just over a month, my wife and I have realized the cab will not be large enough for travelling long-term with our two dogs. We have considered other options for making it work (getting rid of the dogs in NOT one of them) but realistically we just need more space in the cab. Consequently, we've decided to sell the U1550L and switch to a larger (U2150L or U2450L) Doka.

We purchased this Unimog from Hellgeth Engineering in Germany. Prior to Hellgeth, the Unimog was used by the bomb-disposal unit of the German Police. Consequently it saw light duty and was very well maintained and serviced. The Unimog is in excellent condition and would make an ideal expo vehicle, camper or work truck for someone.

The vehicle comes very well equipped . . . .

- 1993
- 134,000 kms
- 6 litre OM366A Turbocharged engine
- Hellgeth have tweaked the engine to provide 230 hp
- Fast axels - 120kph top speed and will cruise happily at 98kph on the highway all day long
- 8 speed transmission with split gearbox (16 gears)
- Long wheelbase (3.7m)
- 8,500 kg GVW
- Hydraulic over air disk brakes
- ABS
- Air dryer
- Pneumatic engine brake
- Pneumatic parking brake
- 4 x Dunlop 405/70R20s plus brand new spare tire and wheel
- Factory 2 circuit hydraulics - perfect for winch, snow plow, etc.
- Air-suspended, full adjustable driver's seat
- 2WD, 4WD or 4WD with diff locks
- Approximately 19" of ground clearance
- Dual 160l fuel tanks (320l total)
- Heavy-duty bed with removal sides and back, plus canvas cover
- Currently mounted with heavy-duty ex-military command box (167"l x 86"w x 81"h)
- Located in Chilliwack, BC, Canada
- Asking price $67,000 CDN

PM me if you have any additional questions or queries.

Cheers

Just drove past this at heritage park. Wicked looking truck!!!!

GLWS!!!!

Thanks . . . . yeah it is a cool looking truck. Can't really drive anywhere without people stopping and staring at it. It certainly draws a lot of attention . . . both from people who have no idea what is it, and those who know what it is and are lusting after it.

Not that I can really afford this, but just to feed my lust a bit further - are there two seatbelt receivers on the passenger bench? (i.e. could this be a cozy 3-seater?)

Thanks.

Yep, its got three seatbelts so you can drive around with too passengers. It would be a bit cozy on a long trip but short trips would be fine with 3 people.

Can you describe the box more? Is it finished on the inside? any equipment included?

What is the access to it like - rear doors I guess?
Looks like it has corner connections like a shipping container?
How does it attach to the flat bed deck?

Thanks.

I had good intentions of taking some photos of the box last weekend but we ended up taking a trip down to Bellingham so I didn't get around to it. However, I'll try and get some either today or tomorrow. I have attached a photo showing the rear of the box and the access door. The door is VERY solid and is lockable from both the inside and the outside. Consequently, you can secure your gear and equipment while you're off hiking, and then lock yourself in at night safe and sound. The door is almost the entire height of the box and is wider than your average RV door so its easy to get large items in and out. We have a ladder tucked in the space between the box and the deck. This can be clipped onto the box just below the door to provide easy access. The box itself is aluminum and is insulated. For someone who knows what they are doing, they could easily make this into a great camper, mobile workshop, etc.

On the back door you can see a large silver frame. This frame holds a sheet of plexi which is covering a hatch in the door. The hatch can be raised or lowered to provide light and ventilation to the box. With the plexi in place it acts as a window. If you didn't want the plexi you could remove it and have free access to the box when the door hatch is open. When its closed its again VERY secure.

The inside of the box is basically empty. However, there is what looks like a heater / air conditioning unit at the front of the box. From what I can gather, this was used to vent heat or cold air to all of the radio and communications equipment in the box. It looks like the heat or cold air is pumped into the walls and dispersed through thousands of small holes all around the box. I have not tried to get this device working so have no idea if its still functional or not. It looks in very good condition so I'm sure someone with a bit of know-how with those kind of things could easily set-it up. The walls, floor and ceiling of the box all have slots for racking systems or for securing equipment. Again, its a bit hard to explain but you'll get a better understanding when I post some photos. There are also some electrical connections (European) and a couple of wired light fixtures. Again, I don't know anything about electrics so don't really know exactly what kind of system is in there.

Yes, all of the corners are like a shipping container making it easy to move the box around. The box is bolted to the truck deck via 4 points, 2 at each of the front corners and two in the back on the underside of the box. The box is VERY secure in this configuration yet still easy to remove if you just wanted to use the flat deck for hauling something else.

Well, we have found a Doka which will fit our needs and have a deal pending on it . . . . so we'd like to sell the U1550L to clinch the deal. As mentioned, we're willing to negotiate on the price with any serious buyers. Our loss is your gain.

This is a great vehicle with many desirable options and will make a perfect expo, work or recreational vehicle for the right person.

Cheers
