Someone in Tuscon?

I am looking at a supposedly pretty clean 60 in the Tuscon area. I was hoping I could get someone local to head over, take a lot of photos, and drive it for me. I am really mostly interesting in the body and interior (will most likely replace drivetrain) so bumpers and even mechanical condition are important but not overly important. It anyone is interested let me know! Thanks, Andre

Hmm Kurt you have me scratching my chin... Truth is though I'm starting to have cold feet (might have been premature to post) about the 60 series idea already but am still on the fence... Just had a good talk with John Braiser both the voice of reason and insanity at the same time and we mostly seem to be on the same page 90% of the time :jumping:. The idea is 55 vs. 60 to progress things along a little quicker if you get my drift ;) A 60 is a big fat round circle for me, I just love them so much but a super clean 55 is so great as well (and much more unique) and I think I'd actually be able to hang onto a clean/functional 55 for much longer for no particular reason :)

Jonathan, thank you very much! I will keep you posted, I need to decide if I want to pull the trigger and/or we make a deal. If you head over and it is less I have been led on (which is my suspicion) it will make the decision easier... If someone wants a lead on a really clean (rust and I believe interior) 60 in Tuscon I might be willing to pass it on, it would be a great/perfect build candidate... :) It is also good looking and later model and relatively cheap... (if it's all that its cracked up to be :D )

Just let me know, Andre. Fact is, I was having second thoughts about helping you anyway until you learned to spell Tucson!

Unbelievable....

For some reason I had a feeling, it just didn't look right... Tucson, Tucson, Tucson...

I was always offended when Albuquerque was spelled wrong when I lived there...

As long as we are on the spelling thing: It's B-R-A-S-I-E-R. No big deal. Most people can't even pronounce it. The telemarketers are the best though. They hesitate and then call me Brazier, the woman's undergarment. I usually reply: "BRA Man here". I've even gone as far as telling telemarketers that one of my ancestors invented the garment. Wow, I have way too much time on my hands.

Dre: I think I'm more the voice of insanity rather than reason, but to each his own. I change vehicles more than some people change their underware.

My Vote: Keep the 55 body. 60's are cool, I've had a dozen or so. 55's are way cooler. Your 55 driver is not your average run of the mill type of person. It takes a certain personality to drive a 55. Some people just don't get it. There's that voice of insanity.....errrr reason again.

Let me think about those doors that you want.

Keep the 55!

Out of all the Cruisers I have bought/sold, my 55 is missed the most. You've already made so much progress on the 55, keep on going!

Does owning a 55 create the insanity, or do you have to be in that state prior to owning one?

The jury is still out on that one. It's similar to the age old question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I will tell you this much, the most 'interesting' Cruiser owners I have ever met, seem to drive 55's.

We do have a pretty good little club here... Martyn is in it, Kurt was even in it once upon a time and John Brasier (ha!) has one of the best 55 stories ever... Technically I think it was the second or third cruiser I owned and still own (down in New Mexico - that story). There is an old email list out there, it had a recent little spirt of activity after even years of dormacy perhaps. The pig owners unite and out of the wood work :)

I would be really psyched to own those doors, here is what they look like (photo below). (As I post this I know John will have second thoughts about selling them to me). It will take a lot of fab of course as the back is totally different. But it sure would be a cool setup and I'm willing to take it on!

It a perfect/dream world, I would travel down to Patagonia for my replacement body in 5-10 years or longer (as pigs really don't last too long) and ship it back. LHD, barn doors factory, other neat features like a 3rd light and other late model stuff. I have a photo on my hard drive at home that is of one of these someone found in a field in Patagonia once. I **will** make that trip someday!

PS it's spelled "underwear" :sombrero:

That's what I am talking about. I NEED the barn doors. Andre, they are still yours if you need/want them. I'll scavenge the world again and get another set. Keep your eyes out for.

Ahhhhh. Touche.

the 55 can create insanity but there is something missing in most of us who own them in the first place.

i would like to think Dre had that special quirkiness but i guess he's just a yuppie after all:sombrero:

i hope you keep the pig Dre, i can imaging maybe your just bored from lack of progress? it happens to all of us, a couple summers ago i hardly touched mine but then i got the bug again, if you rid yourself of it you'll always remember that you made a mistake.

p.s. i dont like barn doors, i really like rolling the rear window down cause it makes a huge difference in the way the air flows. besides i have many uses for a tailgate. but hey, barn doors would be really cool mod. i'll bet guatamala charles(cruiser_guy) can help source some barn doors for ya

Of course add Clay to the list too :) ! I kept getting diesel fumes from the back window and I hate the heavy 55 door. I love 60 and 80 series style lift gates though. I would take that over ambulance doors but it will certainly be unique of course. My favorite ever was a Rover style door (that I had on an old Series III '88 I owned)... I was going to maybe fab up something like this from scratch to install into the 55. Big project though and I would probably be a little scared of it...
