Somewhat portable water filter

I have the beginnings of an idea that I want to flesh out with help from y’all. My desired goal is to have a box/kit with a pump and water filter that I can either plug into my 110 outlet in the truck bed, or run off of an ATV battery to fill water jerrys. I figured a small action packer would be a good size. So, my question is, what’s the best way to build it? What pump, filter setup? Battery or plug in? Is there an item already on the market that I could use that won’t require me to mortgage my house?

Thanks in advance for the support!

I did something similar a while back, I used a plastic battery box, and mounted the pump and battery inside. and drilled holes for the hoses to pass through. I like the cigarette lighter idea.

i was just thinking about this a few days ago, i have basically everything laying around to get er dun. i was thinking a 25 or 5 micron followed by a .5 though i plan on being able to pull water from streams or lakes if need be. for the water pump i was planning a bilge pump i have left over from some testing i was doing with pumps.

seems one should have a bleach container and flow switches that allow you to clean the pump before putting it away. Just switch the flow and run bleach thru the pump to kill the germs that were sitting in it from the water you pulled thru it. Otherwise your adding building contamination everytime you use the unit. Maybe one could set this up to do this thru the whole system before storage?

I'll make sure to get some pictures this weekend.

Yep, returning from trips, I run a high bleach content flush through the pump. Haven't had any problems when using the system for about 2 years now. Use it only on a trip or two a year, and sits the rest of the time.

Didn't get to the pictures with the rain where I live this weekend. I'll get some this week.
