Sony Alpha 100 - Lense Help please

We picked up a Sony A100 when they first came out and we are now looking for a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens.

Can anyone help me pick out lenses that are compromise between performance and cost? We are trying to learn how to use the camera better for our extended trip in August.

I am aware that the first sony DSLR cameras use the old Minolta body and lenses. I have read a lot about the "Beer Can" lens being a good choice. But I have no idea.

I have the A300 from Sony and they kept the mount due to high intrest from former Minolta users like me. Look for old Minolta lenses on CL or ebay. I have a fixed 55mm that I love, but my 35-85 is still my most used lens from Sony.

Not bad, but you can find them cheaper. Problem with ebay is that guys know what they have... old 35mm guys who refuse to go digital are yoru gold mine.

What type of lens are you looking for? If you are intrested, I will loan you mine to play, you just pay for shipping with insurance just in case. There are places that rent lenses, I recommend that before you buy. That way, you can see how it works with your style and camera.

hmm. That beer can on ebay is the cheapest I've seen it.

My goal is to have a decent telephoto lense for long distance shots and a wide angle lense for good landscape shots during our travels. Where would I find a place to rent lenses? I wouldn't want you to risk sending yours.

Thanks for the help!
