Sources for an HK delayed roller pistol? MP5, SP89, etc.

I would like to buy a pistol (classification) MP5, SP89 or similar Heckler & Koch in 9mm. Can anyone recommend a good source or even a good brand that is using parts kits, etc. I need a truck gun for the G-Wagen ;)

Atlantic firearms has this one, but I have no idea of their quality, etc. https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/co...les/aa-89-kfs-9mm-pistol-detail.html?Itemid=0

It's been a while but if I recall correctly the Atlantic firearms stuff is kind of hit or miss. I used to work in a very large gun shop for a few years and I'm a big HK guy. You have a better chance of finding a purple striped unicorn than an SP89, and when you do find that unicorn, it's going to cost you huge money.

I certainly wouldn't use it for a truck gun either. I'd smoke somebody with a $6k wilson combat before I smoked them with an SP89, I can get another wilson, I can't get another SP89.

If your state allows I would look into getting a Sig MPX or the CZ Scorpion and going the form 1 route. Even with Sigs spotty quality control of late it seems the MPX has gotten some good marks.

Edit: just my opinion Scott. Oh and if you've never handled a real MP5 or SP89, let me tell you, they're a real work of art. If I ever hit the jackpot an extensive Class III HK collection is on my short list. The couple of MP5 I saw come through the shop were really something else, the workmanship on those guns is second to none for a mass produced firearm made from sheet metal. Something you don't really see today.

Atlantic carries the POF (Pakistani Ordnance Factory) MP5 copies too, though the name may give pause from what I've heard they are decent. Vector reportedly is decent too, compared the the Atlantic linked AA you posted.

I've toyed with the idea of an MP5 for a long, long time-esp after we had a confiscated one during OIF that we played with on the range quite a bit. As Dr. Cornwallis notes, it is a work of art in firearms in my opinion and shoots accordingly. If I didn't want to hunt HK unicorns some of the places I have thought about sourcing one from include:
Brethren Arms (http://brethrenarms.com/product/bap-9mm/)
Dakota Tactical (https://dakotatactical.com/)
Coharie-but I'm not sure they are in business, but you can find them used)

As noted I don't know that I'd use one as a truck gun, at least not in the definition I use for such a weapon (rugged, semi-disposable in case of theft or usage (seizure post incident)). I'd rather use an MPX for that, or in my case I typically go toward AR pistols as was discussed in another thread here. That said you can't really go wrong with saddling up an MP5 derivative in the G!

Thanks for the feedback guys. The "truck gun" comment was more that an MP5 is the perfect match for the G-Wagen and less to do with performance. Heck, they even make driver and passenger door panels to accommodate the MP5!!!

I am ok with an aftermarket HK clone for the moment. Some are made with tons of factory parts or produce in factories licensed by HK.

Yes, I have had a little fun then an MP5 select fire, suppressed. (forgive the silly chicken-wing - I blame the excitement)

Next time you're in Tucson, stop by the armory at the CBP office at Davis-Monthan AFB.

They've got some nice MP5Ks there that they would maybe let you borrow, especially if you brought them some Overland Journal hats and bumper stickers.

You'd probably have to provide your own ammo...

It is very difficult to argue with the idea of installing the OE door panels and thus needing some PDWs to fit into the space. Clearly that is as MB intended.

These folks have recently began importing this style of firearm. They are the current importer of the turkish produced MKE firearms. Just a few years ago they were being imported by ATI. It is my understanding that MKE produces firearms under license from HK. I have contacted them in the past regarding the roller lock firearms and they were quick to respond. If you cannot locate a dealer local I would be happy to provide you with some of the information I have. (Not affiliated with Zenith Quest).

The MKE is very very nice. I've been shooting roller locks since the late 80's, and have had quite a few. The MKE is not a compromise. It is a solid, well made, built to HK spec firearm. Some aficionados complain about them and call them clones, but they are military grade weapons just as the HK's. I suspect that the aficionados have an issue because they paid as much as $5000 for an HK marked and the minute differences upset them. There has been some issue with the timing of the barrel in that the three lug portion is not indexed to 12,4,8 o'clock. Mine is at 1,5,9. Not an issue with the three lug and purely aesthetic. The finish may be slightly less shiny that the HK paint. Again, aesthetics.

If you had an HK and an MKE in hand, and the markings were covered up, it would be near impossible to determine which was which, beyond the untimed three lug, which MKE is correcting on the current production models.
