Spare Tire Shovel mount?

Anyone know where I might find a shovel bracket that would fit on my (rear mounted) spare tire?

A shovel mount that would fit on ordinary Thule crossbars would also work.

I don't have a basket rack, and am looking for a way to mount a shovel. All the shovel brackets I've seen are designed to mount on basket racks.

Custom fab; it's a peice of 1x1 square tubing cut to length with a peice of round tubing (of size needed for whichever shovel you use) welded to it. Two studs welded to spare tire mounting plate to go through wheel; couple of lugnuts to hold it and you've got one very sexy shovel mount.

my only issue with that design is hoisting up a big, heavy offroad tire on those two LONG studs, i would bend or break them after a couple of times. i would rather drill through the plate and weld in nuts.

:sombrero: I keep mine under the spare tire, between the bumpeer and body--

I agree and that is exactly what I plan to do with mine

It looks to me like the studs are seperate to the other wheel holes. So the shovel bolts to the tire, the tire bolts to the carrier, maybe I am wrong, but that is what it looks like.

Have you seen these shovel and axe spare tyre mounted holder from 4x4 equip in Australia
http://www.4x4equip.com.au/showProduct/4x4+Accessories/Axe+and+Shovel+Holder/AxeShovelHolder/Axe+and+Shovel+Holder

Although it's designed to take their Combo shovel, I reckon that just about any shovel would fit in there, although a long handle shovel may stick up a bit far (hence why they sell the combo shovel).

They're not the cheapest unit available but they are solid and will stand up to a fair pounding.

I’ve been working on a MOLLE plate to mount on my spare tire carrier. The plan is to put a couple of quick fists on it to mount an axe across the top; then a couple of MOLLE bags just below that to handle my recovery gear; straps, etc. When I want to go riding I can remove the axe and use the quick fists as a bike rack. Will only hold one bike but hey nothing is perfect. Anyway here are a couple of pictures during the test fitting stage. Done with it now; all it needs is to be powder coated and mount the equipment on it. Should be back from the powder coater next week and then I’ll post more pictures of it completed.

It mounts through the open stud holes in the spare wheel with wing nuts in back so it is easily removable.

Inquiring minds want to know what's welded to the inside around the perimeter???

1/4 inch round stock to act as a stiffener. It also softens the edge and acts as a stand-off to keep it off the wheel. THe idea was to clamp it against the tire, not the wheel. If I were to do it again I would make the plate 1 inch larger, but as it sits it doesn't touch the wheel but it is close. There are also machined spacers (with the proper taper to fit the wheel lug holes) on the bolts holding it.
