Spare tire winches

I had seen mentioned that some folks have used the mini truck spare tire winches to mount their spare under the trailer. I had one from a Toyota that used a chain but the chain was missing. After several trips to many stores, I found that Toyota used an odd sized chain and is nearly impossible to source.
I went to the wrecking yard and found one from a Dodge Ram truck that will work nicely and uses a cable. $15. Don't forget to get the handle extensions and the ratchet wrench for it.
My M100 is on 33x12.50 tires. After mounting the spare under the trailer, I only had 12" of ground clearance. Not enough for me. Will look for a rim that I can fit a tall but skinny 16" tire or so on. May give me more clearance. I really want that spare under there so I can use the tongue for other items.

The Dodge spare tire winches are pretty simple. Small, flat top four bolt mount, 5/32 cable. I used the fullsized dodge 2500 winches to mount my bridging ladders.

The cup did not fit my application so I substituted Nissan Lift plates.

I can see those little winches good for all sorts of things.

Nice, I never thought of using them for sand laders. For those sourcing, I have used the GM truck (88-up) tire winches, they are sturdy and easy to mount.
