Sparewheel skid plate?

(Please point me in the right direction if this has been covered already)

Has anyone here made a skid plate to protect your sparewheel?

My 32" spare doesn't quite fit where it used to. I'm thinking about squeezing it back and fitting a skid plate to protect it from damage.

Down here in South Africa they can cost a months salary. Way too expensive for me.
I may still have to go that route though

I have two spares so the plan was to try and fit one back underneath, permanently, and then carry the other on the roof rack when needed. Not mad about the spare on the roof rack though, so down the line when I get the chance, make my own bumper/tyre carrier with a removable arm that I can just fit when going on trips that need a second spare.

Right now managing my spares is a PITA. Driving around town and short play sessions I don't even bother taking a spare. Just a repair kit.

Buying a shop built tire rack is always a PITA both for cost and getting it installed. Much better to find a good welder/fabricator imo.

My guess is that the question rarely arises in an off-road venue because most folks don't carry their spare under the vehicle anymore, or if they do, they don't use the vehicle for aggressive terrain. If you want to skid protect the tire, find a circle of steel, like a 55 gallon drum lid or something similar, and use it between the tire and the hanger.
