One of the neat things about this float was what someone warned us about at the launch...
The river, he said, had jumped its banks and created a mile's worth of new channel just south of Polebridge, heading off through the woods (a scary idea for a rower...logs present a serious danger). He told us there was a narrow passage through two logs. You had to point the boat at one log, then ferry like hell (row backwards) to avoid a strainer on the left.
Obviously, rowing the rafts is easier if you are doing a day float, but they were pretty loaded down since we were out for an overnight trip.
I didn't feel confident rowing the little raft and stuck with my cat. I've taken it through class III water successfully and gained a ton of confidence rowing it in the Hudson Gorge.
So we saw it coming, scouted it, and Tim went first with Eileen and I followed with Rob. I think my starboard side kissed that back log but other than that it was uneventful. We had a lot of the trip on my Go Pro so hopefully I can upload some of that when I have time.
