Speedo Recalibration

I just finished re-gearing and changing the tire size on my FJ Cruiser. The speedo was now off by about 10%. I found a recalibration module made by Hypertech and it was an easy fix: http://www.myfjcruiser.org/2770/speedometer-correction-after-re-gear/

I would personally use an Abbott ERA....but that's just me -

It's $170, but it's bullet proof. I've had mine for about seven years and it's been through four tire size changes and gear changes and is still dead nuts on. Simple to set and change.

I have a JET Accu-Speed calibrator laying around my shop that stayed in my truck for a week.....it would tell you that you were running 110 MPH when you were really doing about 30 MPH....good times

So the FJ's use a gear driven speed sensor? Interesting, the 1st Gen Tundra's use an electronic sine wave speed sensor, so there's no gears that can be changed.
I should have elaborated more. The older Tacos and 4Runners use a gear driven speed sensor. I was just posting that info in case it could help someone. Unfortunately my 4Runner uses the ABS sensors so I have to get a calibrator too. I have no idea why Toyota used a gear driven sensor on the Tacos but not on 4Runners of the same year. It sucks because it is a lot more expensive for us to fix our speedo.

Tundra's actually have two speed sensors for different purposes I believe, it's been a long time since I messed with it, but I remember having to make my own wiring diagram when I was building my rig.

Mine actually uses a Jeep TJ gear-driven speed sensor in the Atlas T-case, and then runs through the Abbott ERA for fine tuning. I changed gears on the Jeep speed sensor like you were refering to, but it still wasn't "exact" enough for me. Mine now corresponds spot-on with all my GPS's and the police speed enforcement signs I pass.

I just got back from Moab and this recalibration module is bomb proof. I love the plug and play aspect of it. Being micro chip and programmatically controlled the options are infinite.
