I've been seeing them get between 12-14MPG fully loaded with a diesel. My Diesel 4x4 van currently gets around 12MPG.

V10 4x4 Sportsmobile E350

just doing errands around town etc... I almost always get 12mpg, on roadtrips w/ some decent highway time keeping my speed @65-70 I have been getting 13.5-14.

I should note that I also have a custom cat back Flowmaster exhaust along w/a K&N filter and a Superchips tuner.

The tuner definitely adjusted the shift points a bit and gave me an extra mpg or two and I always run my van on the mid-grade octane gas.

She is currently running on 285/75 16 BFG A/T's and there is a 4.10 rear

Hope this helps

Mine isn't a full blown sportsmobile since I did the interior myself but I have the 5.4 v8, 265/75r16's, 3.73 rear end i believe, and i usually average around 20-22 in town and 27-29 highway...

... and back to reality! I get around 12-13 in town although i have seen it drop as low as 10 in a lot of stop and go. On the highway at 65 mph i'm usually around 15, 75 mph will drop that down to around 12-13, and once while cruising through southern utah taking my time just cruising along at around 55 i pulled down 17.5 mpg! :Wow1: I notice that I usually get 1-2 mpg less if i'm running the oxygenated gas compared to non oxygenated
I don't always calculate my mileage as it's kinda depressing lol:rolleyes:

I just got my Sportsmobile in September. I document fuel mileage every time. I have been getting 12 mpg in town and 13-15 on long trips fully loaded down with gear and people/dogs. I have 6.0 diesel 4.10 gear extended body and 4x4. I hope it will go up just a little as I only have 4000 miles.

Why do sportmobile diesels get so such poor mpg? I know the powerstroke 6.0 in a truck gets much better (15-20 anyway). I've been thinking a 4x4 van is a dang good out of the box rig but ...

I don’t think their MPG is so poor, just honest data from these guys compared to the typical exaggerations.

Power Strokes often get less MPG than Cummins. I think it's simple weight and aerodynamics and how they are driven, but there are many, many variables as I’m sure you know.

I believe the newer engines with more emissions junk on them will get less than the older trucks... YMMV :)

SMB mileage?

We have a 2006 Ford 6.0 diesel 4x4 SMB, and we are getting 15.8 mpg average on all miles driven. This includes the last 6,000 miles of road trips, town driving and some 4x4-low range miles too. With a 10,000 pound vehicle and the loaf-of-bread shape of a van (and being lifted too for the 4x4 conversion), I think that's pretty good. We have 305-70-16 (33") tires and 4:10 gears. When I see the mileage listed in the other mileage post here on ExpoPortal with many smaller and lighter SUV's getting no better and sometimes worse mileage, and I consider the room we have to camp with inside the van, I am happy with this number.

I'm getting around 17mpg over the last 4k miles on my '05 6.0 4x4 SMB with homebuilt interior. 4.10 gears and 315?R16 BFG at tires. Interestingly towing a pinzgauer on a trailer with kids, dogs, bikes, firewood etc etc only got 13.5 mpg. not bad for about 20k total weight.

I don't have a sportsmobile, but my van is larger than any of them, so I should be getting the worst mileage.... My van is an 06 with the 6.0, and all I have modified is the exhaust. No down pipe, just a 4" stainless with the cat removed. I have 38's with 4.10's (going to 4.56 soon) My speedo isn't 100% accurate, but I estimate I get about 12-13 hwy. Most of my hwy trips are from LA to Mammoth, and I used to get to Bishop on a full tank, now I get there with 3/4. And I'm haulin *** the whole time. The mileage has increased as the motor breaks in, I'm just under 30K now. --Chris

Haha...I almost pooped myself when I was taking the first few sentences seriously. Its too bad that there are people out there posting on boards who would have everybody seriously believe exactly what you were joking about.

mileage

I have an '03 E350 w/ 7.3 pwrstroke I get right around 12 -13 on country roads and I've gotten as much as 17.5 on the hwy. That's going the speed limit 65 - 75. I have 4x4 3:55 gears 285 75R16 tires. I always seem to get a couple of miles more on the hwy. I also have a lumber rack and a ladder on the side which doesn't help.

Chiming in as well.
We have a E350 4X4 V10 15 pac club wagon gets a solid 12 mpg on 33 inch tires and a 3.73 gear ratio. Doesnt seem to change much loaded or not.
And the 6.0 diesel in my F350 4x4 gets 13 mpg with 35 inch tires and the same gearing. I have heard the stories about 16 to 18 mpg on the diesels but mine have never achieved it. My old truck with the 7.3 diesel also ran about 13 to 14 mpg.

Jim
