I'm writing with a news announcement from SPOT LLC that I thought would interest you.

On Monday, July 21, SPOT LLC, the pioneer behind the award-winning SPOT Satellite Messenger™, is announcing coverage expansion to include all of Alaska, the Aleutian Islands and the surrounding maritime regions including the Gulf of Alaska and portions of both the North Pacific and South Arctic Oceans. SPOT users, such as Alaska residents, tourists, outdoors adventurists, and remote workers in these regions, can now experience the benefit of additional land and off-shore coverage with their SPOT Satellite Messenger.

That is nice. I have a question though, why wouldn't it have worked before? Did they have to get access to another satelite to cover that region?

I just got back from a trip through Alaska, YT, and NWT. We had coverage in several areas, but we did not have coverage above the Arctic Circle and coverage was spotty (no pun intended) in several areas in western Alaska.

I think this expanded coverage is good.
