I noticed Bestbuy having a sale on the silver and black model of the Spot Messenger, and when I went in the store to buy one in person they had them for $56!

Which store did you go in? I droped by the one on Geary tonight and it was closed early due to PG&E power outage. Did you happen to notice if they had the Connect version on sale as well?

On the website it shows what stores have them in stock. The closest store that had them was the San Carlos store on Industrial. They had at least two more in the cabinet under the display model. I called ahead and checked to be sure before I wasted the ride down, and they held one at customer service for me.

I did not notice if they had the connect model. I was thinking about getting that one, but I don't plan on having a smart phone anytime soon so I just got the regular one.

I signed up on line and activated it this afternoon. I did a quick test and it worked great.
I'm going to use it tomorrow on a ride to Hollister and back through the coast to SF.

Tried to buy one at Best Buy. Says it is no longer available.

Check in "OK" worked quickly and the tracking feature worked pretty good.

It was identifed as 'clearance' at my local Best Buy - not sure if they are not going to carry it any longer or if there is an upgrade coming out.

Well thanks for the hint, I went to the Best Buy in Auburn, CA. They had the SPOT on sale for $99.00. I told the sales person that Best Buy was selling them for $54.00, so he looked at this posting on Expo and said he would look and see what he could do. Wala $32.99.

Today I called the same place I got mine in San Carlos, but I was on hold for over an hour. I was at work and it was really dead so I just left it on Speaker until somebody picked my call up. They never did pickup my call so I finally hung up. I was going to run out and buy another one of them, but wanted to verify that they still had them at the lower price since it's a 60 mile round trip for me. Oh well. I might try again tomorrow.
