Sprinter help.

I'm at Seminole Canyon SP and there are two senior ladies here in a 2014 Sprinter van that has gone into limp mode. They are on a busy why stuck in second gear.

I'm certain they are in limp because of a low trans fluid condition. There is a tiny leak that has probably finally gotten the fluid level down to the point where it initiated limp mode.

Sprinter does not have a dip stick and trying to find out how much fluid I can safely add once limp mode is kicked in? Anyone ever have this issue let me know. I'll try contacting a dealer in a few hours. Just trying to help them out have wifi here but no cell service.

If the sprinter in question has a V6 engine, it will have the NAG1 5 speed trans.

There is a good chance that adding fluid will not help. It depends on the fault, but once the trans enters a hard LHM some must be cleared by a appropriate scanner.

The NAG1 will go into limp mode if the fluid is low enough (I would think at least 2 quarts). If you do a search on the Sprinter-Source site, there is measurements for making a crude DIY dipstick. You could possibly make a dipstick and check the fluid level. This is only applicable to the V6, if they have an I4 engine, the dipstick would likely be different.

How long have they driven in LHM? If it has not been long, adding a quart or possibly 2 to check can't hurt.

luthj raises an excellent point, in that asking for help from the Sprinter-Source forum will get you a bigger set of experts. You may have already done this, but if not, it is a good forum with many knowledgeable people.

Thanks for the info. It did have to be limped into Del Rio. Dodge dealer there said the could help them. Haven't heard but hope turns out well for them.
It was the 6 cyl and the dealer told us adding fluid wasn't going to help.
