I saw this over on Dgrin and thought it was well done.

I'm currently wallowing in the "HDR Hole".

hahaha pretty neat graph. it does not include the stagnant faze. I know 3 photographers right now that are in a huge funk. each has created some amazing images and have great eyes for comp and knowledge for technique. i personally have learned tons from two of them. none can even stand to pick up a camera right now for some reason. They all say about the same thing "nothing new to shoot" even though it is spring and most can not keep their fingers off the shutter button.

I am in"I found and old camera" mode. Still digital though. But, I also feel there is nothing new to shoot. Has me thinking about gritty street photography for a change.

I think I'm ********** dab in the middle of the 'exposure' phase. I am becoming very anal about making perfect negatives.

What happens at /p/ ?

Hmm, not really sure. I guess if you have a big head then your perception follows the dotted line up through perfection and beyond. The rest of us take notice of all the truly talented photogs out there and fall into the "I suck" funk.

LOL, that's pretty good. More and more I find my brain being pulled between what's right technically and what appears right visually. Between leaving shots 'au naturel,' and taking 'creative liberties' with them. I haven't done any HDR work but if there is a post processing hole you'll probably find me wallowing around in it.

Hmmm... I'm stuck in the "All I shoot is Bad" hole, and am trying to figure out exposure. Yet I own a manual SLR film camera, and a tripod. Hmmm....

My problem is, I would like to have nice photos of my trips. But photography is not my "thing" and I don't have the time or effort to devote to it, and spend more time enjoying my trips than shooting them. I don't want to be a slave to the camera.

Is /p/ when you go professional?

photography is part of the joy of trips for me. shooting the landscape is fun but I notice if i am with a group, I do not think to pick up my camera so as to not slow others down. if i am just out with my wife or just me i seem to stop a lot. I have been able to differentiate work photography from play photography, such as pictures of my camp site or off hand pictures of the people your with. Any more portraiture is more like work than fun but it depends a lot on the subjects. been shooting a lot of very amateur women and families and that is work. getting an experienced model can be fun cause there is less direction required.

I guess I am at a point where the technical side has become less important. I find myself breaking "rules" often and also find myself trying to learn other dimensions of photography and pushing myself for new ideas. I spent about 5 hours of my last camping trip birding. steady fast panning while hand holding a 70-200 is a PITA lol. As my tripod/head is not really set up for speed panning I did the best i could. next time maybe i will try my monopod and see if i get better results.

Yeah-hah! Figured it out. /p/ is Fourchan's photography forum.

Just as a warning to the folks who are unfamiliar with 4chan, be careful where you venture to on that site. /p/ might be safe (never been there myself), but there are other areas that are most definitely very NSFW and not something you'd want your kids exploring.

"All I shoot are Flowers and Photos of my Cat"...********

Had someone stay here over the weekend who sat telling me about how great they are as a photographer. They ask me if I want to see their work and I say "Yes, I'd love to see your work"

I'm always looking to see others work and learn from it.

They hand me a 4x6 photo album that is filled with blurry shots of flowers and their cats. I flipped through it and handed it back saying "WOW!! You shoot awesome stuff" scratches head wondering why you'd show that to anyone??

I dont know if I'll ever be above the Exposure/Learning Stage, I've yet to try HDR because of it opening up such a can of worms
